Concept: SAP Separation
Satisfactory academic progress (SAP) separation occurs when a student completes one primary program of study (PPOS) and begins a new PPOS on the same academic record. Example: A student completes an undergraduate program and starts a new graduate program. In which case, Workday automatically resets the SAP calculations and starts fresh for the new PPOS in the next SAP evaluation.
Past Course Eligibility for Fresh SAP Evaluation
Workday considers a past course registration eligible towards fresh SAP evaluation, when the course satisfies academic requirements for the load status for the new PPOS.
Example: A student completes their undergraduate Math PPOS, then begins a graduate Computer Science PPOS. While in their Math program, they took a course, Computer Science 201 which counts towards the graduate Computer Science program. When the student starts their Computer Science PPOS, Workday resets their SAP calculations for the SAP evaluation. Workday also pulls their past Computer Science 201 course to include it in the new SAP evaluation because it applies to graduate Computer Science.
Workday only includes past course registrations that are on the same academic record as the new PPOS. This applies even when the past course registrations satisfy requirements for the current FAPR of new PPOS.

FAPR Eligibility for SAP Separation
For a financial aid period record (FAPR) to be eligible for SAP separation, it must meet these conditions:
- It isn’t the first FAPR ever for the student.
- As of the FAPR’s standard start date of the ending academic period, the PPOS status of the previous FAPR is complete. This ensures that the FAPR is the first FAPR in a new PPOS after the previous PPOS is complete. Example: When a student completes their Math PPOS in Fall 2022 and begins History PPOS in Spring 2023, then their FAPR for Spring 2023 is eligible for SAP separation.
- The FAPR’s PPOS is not the same as the previous FAPR’s PPOS. This ensures that Workday activates SAP separation only when there is a change in the PPOS.
