Certify Alternative Loan Applications

  • Configure these integration templates:
    • Alternative Loan Application Send Response Inbound
    • Alternative Loan Application Send Outbound
    • Alternative Loan Disbursement Roster Inbound
  • Create an award item that represents alternative loans.
  • Security:
    Manage Student Loan Application
     domain in the Financial Aid functional area.
When students apply for alternative loans through a bank or private lender, you can use the
Alternative Loan Application Send Response Inbound
 to import loan application certification requests for processing. Once the certification requests are in Workday, you can review students' financial aid details, verify their eligibility for the award, and make certification decisions. You can then transmit a file with the certifications to your loan servicer for continued processing so that you can package and disburse the loans to students.
  1. Access the
    Find Alternative Loan Applications
     report.
  2. From the
    Alternative Loan Status
     prompt, select any of these options to view alternative loans that you can certify:
    • Certified: Ready to Transmit
    • Ready to Certify
    • Will Not Certify
    Workday doesn't associate alternative loan applications with a financial aid award year until you certify them. To view alternative loan applications that aren't certified, leave the
    Financial Aid Award Year
     prompt empty.
  3. From the related actions menu of the alternative loan application that you want to certify, select
    Student Alternative Loan Application
    Certify Alternative Loan
    .
  4. As you complete the task, consider:
    Option Description
    Certify Loan
    Academic Periods:
     Workday updates the loan period start and end dates based on the academic periods that you select. Workday uses the academic periods that you select to determine how to package the alternative loan.
    Alternative Loan Certified Amount:
     You can certify an alternative loan application for an amount that's more than the student's unmet cost of attendance. You can't certify an alternative loan application for more than the amount requested by the borrower.
    Loan Period Start Date:
     Workday populates this field with the
    Start Date
     of the standard academic period.
    Loan Period End Date:
     Workday populates this field with the
    End Date
     of the standard academic period.
    Reported Cost of Attendance:
     The Workday-calculated cost of attendance for the student. If the calculated cost exceeds 99,999, Workday populates the field with a zero. Verify with your servicer if the lender requires a reported amount. When you manually change the reported cost of attendance, Workday doesn't update the value elsewhere.
    Grade Level Code
    : Workday populates this prompt:
    • Based on the grade level code from the alternative loan application, when available.
    • With the class standing grade level from the student’s attendance plan, based on the earliest of the selected academic periods. Example: When the class standing grade level for Fall is Sophomore and Spring is Junior, Workday populates Sophomore as the grade level code.
    Will Not Certify
    If you don't certify the alternative loan application, Workday doesn't transmit any information to the loan servicer.
Upon certification of the alternative loan application, Workday:
  • Updates the status of the loan application to
    Certified: Ready to Transmit
    , indicating that it's ready for processing using the
    Alternative Loan Application Send Outbound
     integration.
  • Adds the alternative loan award to the student's financial aid package for the selected financial aid award year and academic periods. You don't need to run packaging.
  • Links the alternative loan application to the alternative loan award on the
    Total Financial Assistance
     report.
  • Sets the student award status to
    Accepted
     and locks the award.
  • Withholds the award disbursement until receiving the student's information through the
    Alternative Loan Disbursement Roster Inbound
     integration.
Launch the
Alternative Loan Application Send Outbound
 integration to transmit your certified alternative loan applications to your loan servicer.
If you need to:
  • Revise a certified alternative loan application that you haven't transmitted to the servicer, you can edit and recertify it.
  • Correct a certified alternative loan application that you've transmitted to the servicer, select
    Student Alternative Loan Application
    Correct Transmitted Loan Application
     from the related actions menu of the loan application. See Correct a Transmitted Alternative Loan Application.
