Example: Create Restricted Requirement Groups for a Nonsharing Institutional Policy

This example illustrates 1 way to create a restricted requirement group (RRG) if your institutional policy is to not share registrations between academic requirements.
You're the Advising Administrator of Alma Mater University. Your institutional policy is to not share registrations between academic requirements. On the
Maintain Academic Progress Processing Policy
, you:
  • Select
    Restrict Registrations to One Academic Requirement
    .
  • Order the default academic requirements processing order so that Workday processes the Program of Study first.
On the
Configure Academic Requirements
 task, you've configured the:
  • General Education in Math requirement to an Academic Unit.
  • Computer Science Major Core Courses requirement to a Program of Study.
A student has taken 2 courses (MATH-101 and MATH-120) that satisfy 2 requirements: General Education in Math and Computer Science Major Core Courses. The General Education in Math requirement is using both courses. General Education in Math is also first on the order of requirements. Since you have a nonsharing policy, neither course satisfies the Computer Science Major Core Courses requirement. You want Computer Science Major Core Courses to use both MATH-101 and MATH-120 instead of the General Education in Math requirement.
You decide to create an RRG to share only 1 item between both requirements. You also want the RRG to follow the configured processing order and process the Program of Study first.
  1. Access the
    Create Restricted Requirement Group
     task.
    Security:
    Set Up: Academic Requirements Configurations
     domain in the Academic Advising functional area.
  2. As you configure the task, consider:

    . Workday prefills the field because you're a single-institution.
    Select
    Undergraduate
    . Leave blank to configure the restricted requirement group for all levels.
    Name
    Provide a descriptive name. Example:
    CS Major Core over Quantitative Reasoning

    Start Date
    The date from when the RRG is in effect.
    Select One
    • Select
      Number of Items Allowed to Overlap
      .
    • For
      Number of Items
      , enter
      1
      .
    • Select
      Configured Processing Order
       for
      Preference
      .
    You're now permitting sharing 1 item between the 2 requirements according to the configured processing order.

    You can now share 1 course between the 2 requirements.
    The
    Configure Academic Requirements
     task determines which course uses the requirement.

    Launch Academic Progress Evaluation
     from the related actions of the student profile.
Before Workday applies the restricted requirement group:

Notice that:
  • Workday now gives preference to
    Computer Science Major Core Courses
     because the processing order processes Program of Study first.
  • Since the 2 requirements permit sharing 1 item, MATH-101 now applies to both requirements. However, MATH-120 only applies to the Computer Science Major Core Courses requirement, which you've configured to a program of study.
