Create Typical Attendance Patterns

Create Typical Attendance Patterns

You can create typical attendance patterns for students in a program of study. Workday uses typical attendance patterns to:
  • Derive the expected completion date on a student's program of study record.
  • Generate the academic periods in a student's academic plan until the expected completion date of their primary program of study.
  • Populate projected load statuses on a student's financial aid attendance plan.
  • Determine continuous enrollment when reporting enrollment status changes to the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC). The
    NSC Enrollment Reporting Outbound
integration considers the academic period types in typical attendance patterns as compulsory. See Concept: National Student Clearinghouse Connectors.
You can use the academic calendar policy to assign typical attendance patterns to an academic unit and level or a program of study.
  1. Access the
    Create Typical Attendance Pattern
    task.
  2. As you complete the task, consider:
    Option Description
    Pattern Name
Enter a name for the typical attendance pattern. Example:
    Standard Undergraduate Attendance Pattern
    Academic Calendar
The calendar policy that you configure on the
    Configure Calendar Policy
task uses the same combination of academic calendar and typical attendance pattern.
    Academic Period Types
Select from the period types in the
    Academic Calendar
you selected. Workday uses the period types to generate the periods in a student's academic plan until the expected completion date of their primary program of study.
Configure Nontypical Academic Period Types (Financial Aid)
(Optional) Select this check box to configure an attendance pattern for academic periods not on the typical attendance pattern.
Example: You can configure Summer as a nontypical academic period for your semester calendar institution.
Workday uses this configuration to assign projected load statuses for students and process their financial aid before the
    Actual Enrollment Usage Start
    date.
Configure Nonstandard Period Types for Academic Period Records
(Optional) Select this check box to configure an attendance pattern for academic periods not on the standard attendance pattern.
    On the
    Registrations Roll Up By
    prompt, select:
    • Registration Period
to enable the nonstandard academic period type to roll up into the registration period that you specify.
    • Nominal Start
to enable registrations with a start date that fall within the nonstandard period dates to roll up into the nonstandard period instead.
Workday prepopulates academic plans with academic periods when you:
  • Create the student's academic plan the first time.
  • Add years to the student's academic plan.
  • To view a typical attendance pattern, access the
    Find Typical Attendance Pattern
    report.
  • To change a typical attendance pattern, access the
    Edit Typical Attendance Pattern
    task.
