Set Up Superannuation Suspension based on Worker Age and Hours Worked (AUS)

Set Up Superannuation Suspension based on Worker Age and Hours Worked (AUS)

A way to identify the workers who don't meet the minimum age and hours worked to be eligible for superannuation.
You can suspend superannuation for workers who don't meet the age and hours requirements specified in the
AUS Superannuation Age and Hours
lookup table.
There are 2 ways to set up superannuation suspension, the Weekly Hours Rule, or the Pay Component Suspension Rule.
Using the Weekly Hours Rule, Workday assumes that a worker is eligible for superannuation guarantee, unless all of these criteria are met:
  • The worker has a date of birth recorded, and their age is less than the minimum age as of the pay period end date.
  • The worker is paid weekly (pay frequency >= 52 and <= 53).
  • The sum of their hours in the pay component group
AUS Superannuation Suspension: Weekly Under Hours method - Included Hours
is less than the minimum amount of hours, and the pay component isn't blank.
We suggest using this option when a worker's hours are processed in the Workday payroll pay result, and the worker is paid weekly.
Using the Pay Component Suspension Rule, Workday assumes that a worker is eligible for superannuation guarantee, unless:
  • The worker has a date of birth recorded, and their age is less than the minimum age as of the pay period end date.
  • The sum of all pay components in the pay component group
AUS Superannuation Suspension: Pay Component Suspension Method
    is greater than zero.
We suggest using this option when you can identify workers who have worked less than the minimum amount of hours using your time tracking system.
  1. Access the
    Maintain AUS Superannuation Configuration
    task, and select
    Update Superannuation Default Configuration
    .
  2. In the
    Superannuation Suspension Rules
section, select the rule that you want to enable:
    Option Description
    Pay Component Suspension Rule
Workday aggregates all of the hours in the period for the pay components in the pay component group
AUS Superannuation Suspension: Weekly Under Hours Method - Included Hours
    Weekly Under Hours Rule
Workday aggregates all of the pay components in the period for the pay component group
AUS Superannuation Suspension: Pay Component Suspension Method
. If the result is greater than zero, superannuation payment is suspended.
  3. Add pay components to pay components group according to the rule that you enabled:
    Option Description
AUS Superannuation Suspension: Weekly Under Hours Method - Included Hours
Select all pay components that are used to accumulate hours towards the minimum hours.
    Add the
    Hours
pay component related calculation by editing the earning or deduction, and adding the pay component group to the
    Groups
    column of the
    Related Calculations
    grid.
We don't recommend that you include leave loading, shift loading, or similar calculations. They may include hours that shouldn't be counted towards the worker's minimum hours.
AUS Superannuation Suspension: Pay Component Suspension Method
Select all pay components that are used to evaluate if superannuation suspension should happen in the period.
For superannuation to be suspended, the value must be greater than zero.
If a prior period includes a suspension pay component that is no longer applicable, enter a pay input to reverse or override the value to zero. When a retro occurs, the period recalculates and superannuation is paid.
When a worker isn't eligible for superannuation because of the superannuation suspension rule, superannuation guarantee (SG) and Qualifying Earnings (QE) for the period are zero. If the worker has prior YTD earnings from eligible periods, the YTD values are still reported in the STP report for the eligible periods.
For workers who are eligible for superannuation, Workday reports the YTD amount of QE and superannuation guarantee liability in the STP report.
No other superannuation components are suspended. Additional Employer Voluntary, Salary Sacrifice (pre tax), and Member contributions (post tax) are still processed.
