FAQ: Time Kiosk

FAQ: Time Kiosk

Can employees download the Kiosk to their own devices? What about mobile phones?
Workday designed the Time Kiosk app to be used on tablets that run iOS or Android. We don’t recommend using the application on personal devices.
Can the Time Kiosk support a third-party badge reader?
No. The Workday Time Kiosk doesn't support third-party badge readers, external keyboards, or barcode scanners (including Zebra devices). These external devices can consume significant device memory and system resources, which prevents the app from operating at full capacity and delivering a consistent experience. For optimal performance and reliability, the Time Kiosk supports only approved Android and iOS tablets that meet minimum screen size and system requirements. See Workday Community: Update: Supported Devices for Time Kiosk.
Does the Time Kiosk support facial recognition?
Workers sign in using only their employee IDs. Clock partners can support facial recognition on their devices.
Is the Time Kiosk a separate app from the Workday mobile app?
Yes, the Workday Time Kiosk app is a separate app from the Workday mobile app. The standard Workday mobile app is for workers and managers and is available for anyone to download. The Time Kiosk app is only available to Time Tracking customers through a download link.
Is the worker PIN used to capture time on the Kiosk stored on the worker profile in Workday?
Workers use their Workday employee ID to sign in and capture time.
Is there an add-on cost to use the Time Kiosk?
The Workday Time Kiosk is included with Workday Time Tracking at no additional cost.
I have Time Kiosks deployed now that used the original enrollment flow. Do I need to reenroll them?
Your Time Kiosks will continue to work, but we recommend that you reenroll your existing kiosks to ensure you receive the latest updates and improved reporting features.
Does the Time Kiosk respect time entry template settings?
The Time Kiosk applies any default time entry codes and worktags to time entries when workers check in. Worktags configured on the Time Kiosk take priority over worktags configured on the time entry template or time entry code.
Does the Time Kiosk work with project time entry?
Not at this time.
Does the Time Kiosk app support Mobile Device Management (MDM)?
No. The manager must manually enter the organization ID, web address, and manager client ID on each device during setup.
What is scalable setup and when does it apply?
Scalable setup enables you to configure multiple Time Kiosk devices with the same settings using Time Kiosk templates, which you create in Workday. Scalable setup is available on the Time Kiosk app from 2026-07-10. Once you've created Time Kiosk templates, you can use them to set up existing and new Time Kiosks. You must use scalable setup when:
  • You set up a new tablet.
  • You download any version of the Workday Time Kiosk app after 2026-07-10.
  • Your certification expires.
For Time Kiosks set up before 2026-07-10, Workday recommends you set them up again using the new scalable setup. This will simplify future updates and grant access to enhancements.
Do we need 1 template per device, 1 per location, or 1 for the whole organization? What about duplicating templates?
  • Create separate templates for locations or organizations when settings differ. Example: Different time zones, cost centers, or worktag values.
  • Multiple devices can share a single template. There is no limit to how many devices can use the same template.
  • You can add multiple organizations to 1 template. This is useful when several organizations share the same time zone and worktag configuration.
  • You can create duplicate templates as long as each template has a unique name.
How long does it take for offline check-ins and check-outs to sync after reconnecting?
You can expect delays of up to 10-20 minutes after the Time Kiosk reconnects to the internet before offline data appears in Workday.
