Enroll Workers into Retirement Savings Plans with Default Contribution Increases
- Create a retirement savings plan and enable theAuto Contribution Increasecheck box. See Create Retirement Savings Plans.
- Security:Set Up: Benefitsdomain in the Benefits functional area.
When managing retirement savings elections in Workday, you can create a passive event rule to enroll workers in the retirement savings plan at the default percentage.
This configuration also enables workers to:
- Waive the default contribution.
- Change the default contribution
- Opt out of the auto-increase.
Ensure that you communicate with your workers about this event and what they need to do to waive or change the default contribution, or opt out of the auto-increase.
- Create a benefit event type for the passive event rule.
- Access theCreate Benefit Event Typetask.
- Enter a name for the new benefit event type.You can prefix the name withPASSIVEto easily identify the purpose of the event.
- Select the applicable coverage types in theEnrollment Offering Typefield.
- Select the number of days you want to allow workers to enroll in theDays to Enrollfield.Once this date passes, run theFinalize Open Benefit Eventsprocess to finalize any events the workers did not submit.
- ClickOK.
- Create a benefit eligibility rule for the passive event rule.
- Access theCreate Benefit Eligibility Ruletask.
- SelectBenefit Plan Eligibility Ruleand clickOK.
- Create a rule that identifies the workers that you want to enroll in the retirement savings plan at a default contribution. See Create Benefit Eligibility Rules.Because you assign the passive event rule to benefit groups with a benefit group eligibility rule, you don't have to replicate the eligibility.
- Create the passive event rule.
- Access theCreate Passive Eventrule.
- Enter a name.
- Select the benefit event type and benefit eligibility rule that you created.
- Select the benefit groups that are applicable to the rule and clickOK.
- Configure the benefit default.
- Access theMaintain Benefit Defaultstask.
- Add the defaulting information for the relevant benefit groups and plans in theRetirement Savingstab.
- In theEmployee Contribution Percentagefield, enter the percentage at which you want to enroll new participants.
- ClickOK.
- Update the enrollment event rule.
- Access theEdit Enrollment Event Ruletask for the relevant enrollment rule.
- On theStart or Waive Coveragetab, add a row for the passive benefit event.
- Enter values for theBenefit Coverage Typefield, theCoverage Begin Datefield, and theDeduction Begin Datefield.
- On theCoverage Rulestab, add a row for the passive benefit event.
- Select a value for theBenefit Coverage Typefield. SelectCan Select Any Planfor theAllowed Benefit Plan Changesfield if you are routing the event to the worker to take action orNo changes allowedif you want the election to finalize automatically with no action from the worker. SelectDefault to Priority Coverage or Waivefor theDefaulting Rulesfield.
- Schedule the passive event rule.
- Access theSchedule Passive Eventstask.
- Select the run frequency you want and clickOK.
- Enter aRequest Nameand select thePassive Event Ruleyou want to schedule.
- Set up the date and time parameters on theScheduletab and clickOK.
Once the passive event schedule runs, the rule enrolls workers in the retirement savings plan at the default percentage. Workers will also have the option to waive the default contribution, change the default contribution, or opt out of the auto-increase.
