Create Custom Dimension Values
- When you want to tag the dimension values with attributes:
- Security:Model includes sheets, accounts, dimensions and formulaspermission.
Dimension values roll up to dimensions. After you create dimensions and values, you can add them to standard, cube, and modeled sheets. You and your team can select the values as you enter or import data. Then you can build reports and charts using the dimensions.
You can also tag levels with dimension values to create alternate level hierarchies.
In addition to the values you create, every custom dimension also has these values:
Uncategorized
and All
. All data in your model is associated with a custom dimension value. The Uncategorized
value tags any data that your team doesn't explicitly tag with a value.- SelectModelingfrom the main menu.
- ClickDimensions.
- From the dimension list, highlight the dimension.
- From the toolbar, clickCreate new dimension value.
- As you complete theDimension Value Detailssection, consider:

See Resolve View Dependencies to Delete Dimension Values. - By default, new dimension values are available in all versions unless the value is hierarchical. Hierarchical dimensions inherit the availability of the parent dimension value.
- (Optional) From the prompts in theDimension Attributessection, select the attribute values that you want to associate with the dimension value. There are prompts for each of the dimension attributes that you created for the dimension. See Create Attributes.
- (Optional) In theCustom Propertiessection, enter numerical text in each field to associate to the dimension value. The label of the text fields comes from theCustom Propertiessection of the dimension. For Sales Planning only: Use the custom properties to Create Geo Maps.
- Click the arrow next to the save icon and select:
- Save: Saves the dimension value.
- Save and New: Saves the dimension value and starts a new dimension value.
The new value doesn't affect any data until you associate the data with the new value. The new value is automatically available for all sheets, reports, and charts. For dimensions that are already in use, Adaptive Planning automatically adds the new values to:
- Standard and modeled sheets.
- Reports.
- Charts on your dashboards.
- Perspective context filters.
For cube sheets, the new value treatment depends on the cube sheet settings. You can indicate whether or not new values get automatically added to each cube sheet.
