Report notes refer to the entire report and attach to levels. Other people can review the note if they have access to the attached levels:
- If no levels display on the report, your note attaches to the highest level you can access. Only people with access to the same level or higher can review the note.
- If levels display in the columns or rows, your note attaches to all the levels you can see in the columns or rows. People with access to any of the visible levels can review the note.
- If levels display in the parameters, your note attaches to the level you select from the prompt. People with access to the selected level can see the note when they also select the level from the parameter prompt.
You can add notes to your reports to collaborate with other users. Example: Add comments and notes in financial statements based on accounting standard and statutory requirements. Report notes:
- Follow the annotated report when the report is copied, a snapshot is created, or the report is moved.
- Are report specific. Notes you make on one annotated report don't appear on a different report.
- Are saved automatically as you create or edit them.
- Go toReportsand run a matrix report.
- From the toolbar, click theNotesbutton and selectAdd Report Note.A disabledAdd Report Notemeans that you must first save the report.
- Enter your note and clickOK.You don’t need to save the report to save the associated notes.
The note displays in the bottom panel with your name, date, time, and the levels.
- HQ is the parent of Sales and G&A. The report has no levels in the columns, rows, filters, or parameters.If you have access to HQ
- Your note attaches to HQ.
- Only others who also have access to HQ or higher can review the note.
- You can review notes attached to HQ, G&A, or Sales.

- The finance department for a corporation needs to prepare an end-of-period numeric variance report and a written report that explain the variances between actuals and budget. Adaptive Planning already provides the means to produce the numeric report. Each department can contribute using the report and inline notes feature to assist with the written report.The manager for each level who runs the report can view only the numbers for their level. They can add line notes to explain any variances from budget.The VP can view the notes added by the level managers. They can also:
- Add report parameters to filter data to a specific level and view the data at that level.
- Swap the view back to the top level to add overall comments about where they went over budget, and where they remained on target.
The head of finance can:- View the entire corporate rollup of the variance report. They can also view all comments from level managers and the VP and decide to investigate further by email or phone call.
- Gather the information needed to prepare a written report, copying comments of interest.
- Generate report snapshots to build a document of record for a reconciliation report.
- Clear comments from the variance report to prepare for the next reporting cycle.
