Example: Build Matrix Reports with Alternate Calendars
This example illustrates how to create a matrix report comparing the data between alternate
calendars and the default calendar for your default version.
HQ is the top level for the model.
The default calendar follows a labor year of 2-week pay periods. The first alternate
calendar displays the rollups for calendar years. The other alternate calendar
displays rollups for the fiscal year. Week is the fork strata and the default strata
of the default calendar. The report will display values in all calendars for 2017.
Labor Periods (default)
- Structure: Week > Pay Period > Pay Year.
- Example labels:W1-17,P1-17,PY2017.
- 2 weeks roll up to a pay period.
- 26 pay periods roll up to a pay year.
- Range: Jan. 29, 2017- Feb. 10, 2018.
Calendar Year:
- Structure: Week > C-Month > C-Quarter > C-Year.
- Example labels:Jan-17,Q1-CY17,CY2017.
- 4-5 weeks roll up to a month.
- 3 months roll up to a quarter.
- 4 quarters roll up to a year.
- Range: Jan 1, 2017 - Dec 30, 2017.
Fiscal Year
- Structure: Week > F-Month > F-Quarter > Fiscal Year.
- Example labels:Feb-FY18,Q1-FY18,FY2018.
- 4-5 Weeks roll up to a fiscal month.
- 3 months roll up to a quarter.
- 4 quarters roll up to a year.
- Range: Jan 29, 2017 - Feb 3, 2018
Security:
- Access Reportspermission.
- Modify All Reportspermission.
- SelectReportsfrom the main menu.
- ClickAdd Newand selectMatrix.
- Add the rows:
- From theElementspane, clickLevelsand drag the top level into the rows.
- Click .
- Drag these general ledger accounts to the report rows under the level:
- PL Income
- Non-Operating Income
- PL COGS
- PL Expense
- Non-Operating Expenses
- Add the default calendar for 2017 to the columns:
- ClickBack to Elementsand expand theTimeelement.
- ExpandLabor Periodsand dragPY2017into the first column.From theDesign Elementssection, dragCustom headerto the left ofPY2017.
- Right-click the custom header and selectProperties.
- ForLabel, enterLabor Periodsand clickApply.
- From theDesign Elementssection, dragBlank spaceinto the columns to the right ofPY2017.
- Add the calendar year for 2017 to the columns:
- From theDesign Elementssection, dragSegmentinto the columns to the right of the last segment.
- ExpandCalendar Year.
- DragCY2017into the new segment.
- From theDesign Elementssection, dragCustom headerinto the same segment and to the left ofCY2017.
- Right-click the custom header and selectProperties.
- ForLabel, enterCalendar Yearand clickApply.
- From theDesign Elementssection, dragBlank spaceinto the columns to the right ofCY2017.
- Add the fiscal year for 2018:
- From theDesign Elementssection, dragSegmentinto the columns to the right of the last segment.
- ExpandFiscal Year.
- DragFY2018into the new segment.
- From theDesign Elementsection, dragCustom headerinto the same segment to the left ofFY2018.
- Right-click the custom header and selectProperties.
- ForLabel, enterFiscal Year.
- From the toolbar, click the arrow on theSavebutton and selectSave and Run.
You can review different rollup amounts for the different calendars based
on their start and end dates.
