Concept: Matrix Reports
Matrix Report Rules
A matrix report includes rows and columns where you can arrange data elements. When creating matrix reports, follow these guidelines:
- Every report requires these elements:
- Account and account attributes
- Time
- Version
- Level
- You need at least 1 element on the rows and 1 on the columns.
- You can accept or override these defaults:
- The highest level that you have access to.
- The working version or the last version you select in the application.
- The timespan of the working version.
- Elements of like kind must share the same axis. Once you place an element on the columns, you can’t place the same element on the rows or in the filter. Example: When you place Current Assets on the columns, you can't place Fixed Assets on the rows or use it as a filter. The same rule applies to the rows.
- Once you add an element in the filters section of the report, you can use it for parameters but not for rows, columns, or the sheet tabs.
- To use elements as parameters, first add them to the report in the rows, columns, or filters.
Mixed Time Configurations
When managing the Time element hierarchy in your report, consider the time configurations of the accounts. Apply time elements that correspond to the granularity of the account elements:
- Apply the Time element to match the time configuration of the accounts. Example: If you have only monthly accounts in the report, include only months or larger in the time hierarchy.
- Apply the Time element to match the largest time configuration of the accounts. Example: If some accounts are weekly and some are monthly, apply the Time element hierarchy to the month level only. The report displays the rollup value of the weekly accounts for months. If you do include weeks in the time hierarchy, the weekly segments display blanks for the monthly accounts.
- When using accounts with different time configurations as filters, be aware of how data displays. Example: The filters include multiple accounts, some weekly and some monthly. You expand the Time element to a shorter time. The report displays the total of the:
- Weekly accounts in the week segments.
- Weekly and monthly accounts in the month segments.
