Example: Use Parameters to Display Ad Hoc Variances
You can add difference calculations to elements that are also parameters. Then, when you run
the report, you can see the calculations update as you select different parameter
choices. This example illustrates how to use difference calculations with parameters to
display different variances for each parameter choice.
You want your report to display annual variances in the Expense account between your
actuals version and a few different plan versions. Your versions include:
- Actuals.
- Current Budget.
- Forecast.
- Last Year Budget.
The current year is 2022.
- Go toReports.
- ClickAdd Newand selectMatrix.
- From theElementstab, click .
- Drag and drop6000 Expenses and 7000 Allocationsinto the rows.
- ClickBack to Elements.
- ClickTime.
- Drag and dropFY2022into the columns.
- ClickBack to Elements.
- ClickVersions.
- Drag and dropActualsandCurrent Budgetunder theFY2022element in the columns.
- From the columns, drag and dropActualsinto theParameterssection.
- From the columns, drag and dropCurrent Budgetinto theParameterssection.
- From the parameters section, right-clickVersionand selectProperties.As you complete the task, consider:

- From the top of the report viewer, select different versions from each of the version parameters and clickRun Report.
You can compare any combination of the 4 versions.
