Troubleshooting: Decrease Cube Sheet Capacity

Troubleshooting: Decrease Cube Sheet Capacity

When cube sheets exceed capacity, you can't view or change data. Your cube sheets exceed capacity due to issues in the cube sheet itself or in your model.
Cause
Solution
The cube sheet includes calculated accounts that are either:
  • No longer in use.
  • Not required for a version.
Security:
Model includes: sheets, accounts, dimensions, and formulas
permission.
  1. Select
    Modeling
    Model Management
    from the main menu.
  2. Depending on how you assign access to your cube sheet, select either:
    • Level Assigned Sheets
    • User Assigned Sheets
  3. From the sheet list, click
    Edit
    next to the sheet name.
  4. Select
    Cube Accounts
    .
  5. Select the calculated account.
  6. To change a calculated account that isn't required for the version, select the version on the
    Formula Version Selector
    field.
  7. On the
    Override Formula Setting
    field in the
    Data Type
    section, select
    Data Entry
    .
In general, we recommend setting a data entry override for actuals versions.
The cube sheet includes inactive or unnecessary levels.
If the cube sheet uses cube assumptions by default, these cube assumptions apply to all included levels. Cube assumptions increase how much data the cube sheet uses.
Security:
  • Model includes: sheets, accounts, dimensions, and formulas
    permission.
  • Organization Structure
    permission.
  1. Select
    Modeling
    Model Management
    from the main menu.
  2. Depending on how you assign access to your cube sheet, select either:
    • Level Assigned Sheets
    • User Assigned Sheets
  3. From the sheet list, click
    Edit
    next to the sheet name.
  4. Select
    Dimensions, Attributes and Levels
    .
  5. Select the Level dimension from the center canvas.
  6. From the
    Levels
    tab in the
    Level Properties
section, clear the check boxes of inactive or unnecessary levels.
Linked accounts included on the cube sheet either:
  • Don't filter out enough data, forcing the sheet to perform unnecessary calculations.
  • Link inefficiently.
Example: You only want to bring in data for 1 attribute or dimension value. Change the link to only bring in that value.
To get multiple dimension values from the same account, we recommend that you link to the account multiple times. With each link, select the next dimension value. This method performs better than 1 link to the account without any filters.
Security:
Model includes: sheets, accounts, dimensions, and formulas
permission.
  1. Select
    Modeling
    Model Management
    from the main menu.
  2. Depending on how you assign access to your cube sheet, select either:
    • Level Assigned Sheets
    • User Assigned Sheets
  3. From the sheet list, click
    Edit
    next to the sheet name.
  4. Select
    Cube Accounts
    .
  5. Select the linked account.
  6. In the
    Links to
section, select the linked account that you want to filter.
  7. Click
    Edit
    .
  8. Change your selections in the fields in these sections:
    • Apply Dimension Value
    • Link Filter
  9. To create more links to the same account:
    • In the
      Add Link Accounts
section, select the same sheet and account.
    • In the
      Link Filter
section, select a different dimension value.
The timespan of the version is too broad.
Ensure that your versions only include the timespan that you need for both your plan and actuals versions.
For plan versions, we recommend that you:
  • Set your left scroll limit to the first fiscal year of the version.
When you move your left scroll limit forward, you delete all data on your version that exists before your new left scroll limit.
  • Set your end of plan to the current fiscal year or earlier.
  • Remove empty fiscal years.
For actuals versions, we recommend that you:
  • Set your start of version to the first fiscal year of the version.
When you move your start of version forward, you delete all data on your version that exists before your new start of version.
  • Set your end of version to the current fiscal year or earlier.
  • Remove empty fiscal years.
Security:
Versions
permission.
  1. Select
    Modeling
    Model Management
    from the main menu.
  2. Select
    Versions
    .
  3. From the list, select the version.
  4. Depending on your version type, change the values on these fields to reduce the timespan:
    • Left scroll limit
    • End of plan
    • Start of version
    • End of version
On the level structure, levels exist that are:
  • No longer in use.
  • Not yet set to inactive on the current plan version.
  • Still accept actuals.
Calculations continue to include these levels until you inactivate them.
Change the level availabilities on your version so that these levels are no longer available.
The overall scope of the cube sheet is too broad.
Split the cube sheet into 2 smaller sheets.
