Example: Create Product and Customer Custom Dimensions

This example illustrates how to import 2 new custom dimensions and the related custom dimension values for your Working Budget version.
You would like to create 2 additional dimensions:
  • Customer for 3 customers: Winter Wonderland, Good Day Sunshine, Fashion Fiend.
  • Product for 3 products: Jackets, Sweaters, T-shirts.
You want to use these dimensions to plan your revenue by product and customer in a merged cube sheet.
Security:
  • Model includes sheets, accounts, dimensions, and formulas
     permission.
  • Structure Import
     permission.
  1. Select
    Modeling
     from the main menu.
  2. Click
    Dimensions
    .
  3. From the toolbar, click
    Import Dimension Structure
    .
  4. Click the
    Download template
     link.
  5. Open the file and click the second sheet.
  6. Complete these columns in the spreadsheet as shown:
    Dimension Name
    Dimension Display Name Format
    Dimension Value Code
    Dimension Value Name
    Customer
    Name
    Name
    WW
    Winter Wonderland
    Name
    GDS
    Good Day Sunshine
    Name
    FF
    Fashion Fiend
    Product
    Name
    Name
    Jack
    Jackets
    Name
    Sweat
    Sweaters
    Name
    T
    T-shirts
  7. Save the spreadsheet as
    Updated Dimensions
    .
  8. Return to
    Modeling
     >
    Dimensions
    .
  9. From the toolbar, click
    Import dimension structure
    .
  10. Select
    Update and Append
    .
  11. Click
    Choose File
    .
  12. Browse your computer files to select the
    Updated Dimensions
     file.
  13. Click
    Upload
    .
Your new dimensions and dimension values are available in unlocked versions that you can access.
