Create a Waterfall Chart with Subtotals

  • Create Perspectives, or have edit access to shared perspectives.
  • Security
    Edit Dashboards
    permission.
You can enable
Multiple Variance Accounts
in a Waterfall chart to add multiple variance accounts including subtotals. Example: You can have a waterfall chart that shows the initial, current, and projected change to headcount using an intermediate subtotal to visualize the current headcount value.
  1. Select
    Dashboards
    from the main menu.
  2. Select a perspective to open.
  3. Click
    Edit
    to put your dashboard in edit mode.
  4. On the left panel, click the
    Charts
    tab, then drag and drop the
    Waterfall Chart
    from the Charts in the left panel into the dashboard.
  5. In the
    Appearance Settings
    tab, select
    Multiple Variance Accounts
    .
  6. (Optional) Select the
    Subtotal Color
    to set the subtotal column color.
  7. In the
    Data Settings
    tab, add an
    Opening Account
    as the initial value of the waterfall chart.
  8. Under
    Variance Accounts
    , click
    Add
    to add variance values.
    You can select a parent account to include each children account as individual variance values.
  9. Under
    Variance Accounts
    , click
    Add
    .
  10. In the
    Display
    field, select
    Subtotal
    .
    The
    Subtotal
    option visualizes the account as an intermediate subtotal column.
  11. Add a
    Closing Account
    to use as the final value of the waterfall chart.
