Billions and Trillions Display Unit

Billions and Trillions Display Unit

Preview Date: 2026-10-16.
In Adaptive Planning, you can now display dashboard account values in billions and trillions.
Display units
includes two new magnitude options, and chart values, axis labels, and KPI tiles show B and T. This is a display-only change. Stored values, calculations, and currency conversion stay the same.
On KPI and crosstab charts, you can also show an account as a whole number when that account is configured with decimal places.

Business Benefits

  • Makes billion and trillion-scale totals readable on dashboards, so large consolidated results can appear as B or T instead of a long number or as millions.
  • Keeps executive views consistent, because you choose the display magnitude on the chart and the underlying account values stay the same.
  • Lets you show whole numbers on KPI and crosstab charts when an account uses decimal places, without changing the account definition.

Changes

  • Display units
now includes these options on account-based dashboard charts:
    • #,000,000,000 (#,##0.#), which shows values in billions and abbreviates them as B.
    • #,000,000,000,000 (#,##0.#), which shows values in trillions and abbreviates them as T.
  • For a currency account, the same patterns include the currency symbol. Example: $,000,000,000 (#,##0.#).
  • You can select the billion and trillion options on Area, Bar, Column, Line, Pie, Doughnut, Funnel, Pyramid, Scatter, Combo, Waterfall, Fan, Gauge, Geo Map, KPI, Scorecard, and Crosstab charts. Chart values and axis labels use the magnitude you select. A gauge can show a value such as $438.3 T.
  • KPI tiles show the main value and the variance with B or T. Example: $489.5 B, with a variance of -$489.5 B.
  • The currency symbol and the negative number format continue to apply at these magnitudes, including a minus sign, parentheses, and red text. The same display appears when you edit the dashboard, view it, present it, and export it.
  • Pie, Doughnut, Funnel, Pyramid, and Geo Map charts don't show a B or T abbreviation on the chart, because those charts do not have a numeric axis for the abbreviation. Data-point tooltips continue to show the full value.
  • Calculated metrics that use a custom display unit can show billions and trillions where that unit is eligible. The custom unit abbreviation appears with B or T. Example: a custom Units metric can show 0.49 TU.
  • On KPI and crosstab charts, when an account is configured with decimal places,
    Display units
now includes # (#,##0) so you can show whole numbers. The decimal format for that account remains available.

What Do I Need to Do?

To display values in billions or trillions:
  1. Edit the chart.
  2. In
    Display units
, select #,000,000,000 (#,##0.#) for billions or #,000,000,000,000 (#,##0.#) for trillions. For a currency account, select the same pattern with the currency symbol.
To display whole numbers on a KPI or crosstab chart when the account uses decimal places:
  1. Edit the chart.
  2. In
    Display units
    , select # (#,##0).

What Happens if I do Nothing?

Dashboards keep the current
Display units
setting. Charts set to thousands, millions, or another existing option continue to render as they do today. You see B or T when you select a billions or trillions option, or when
Follow Account
resolves that magnitude from the account.
