Concept: Survey Preview

Overview

Survey preview allows you to simulate and review how the survey will appear to employees. Administrators can preview the survey in 2 modes:
  • Preview Survey
: Shows the survey as you would see it.
  • Custom Preview
: View the survey as an employee from a specific segment or attribute, including rule-based questions. Custom Preview supports rules for Exit questions for both before and after an employee leaves, so you can analyze the leavers experience at different points in their departure timeline.
Survey answers and data from previewed surveys are not retained. For more information on how to preview surveys, visit Preview the Survey.

Custom Preview

Option
Configuration
Attribute
and
Segment
Choose the attribute (Example: Department, Tenure, or Location) and then the segment (Example:
Accounting
and
> 3 months after starting
). The segment determines which questions appear based on employee record and question timing.
The Separation date segments allows you to preview surveys sent to exited employees.
Time configuration
When you use rule-based questions for Onboarding and Exit question sets, the time configuration controls which questions are selected and linked to the rule.
For Exit questions, you can preview rules that apply before separation, after separation, or both
Select a time-based configuration to display the questions associated with the rule. Ensure your time-based rules are set correctly to display questions to employees who meet the criteria (Example:
3 weeks after starting
).

Considerations

  • When using Custom Preview, you can’t preview multiple segments from the same attribute. Example: If you choose the
    > 3 months after starting
segment under the Tenure attribute, you won’t be able to preview
    3 – 6 months after starting
at the same time. This ensures the preview stays focused and reflects real targeting conditions.
  • You must select at least 1 segment before applying any rule-based questions. The system only shows rules that match the selected segment. Example: If you select
    > 3 months after starting
, you’ll only see rules that apply to employees within that range (up to 12 weeks).
  • Segments work additively. If you select both
    London
    and
    Accounting
, the preview includes questions relevant to both segments. This helps when you’re testing inclusion or exclusion logic tied to multiple attributes. Peakon warns you if the selected segment doesn’t match any questions.
  • Peakon informs you if the selected segment doesn’t match any questions.
