Workday HiredScore Spotlight Fit and Gap Enhancement with LLM
With this release, we enhance Workday HiredScore Spotlight by replacing basic qualifications matching and final grade assignment with a Large Language Model (LLM)-driven approach that evaluates each screenable qualification individually against the candidate’s parsed resume. Recruiters are provided with straightforward explanations, clearer grading transparency, and a new
Fit & Gap
view on the candidate profile.Business Benefit
This enhancement gives recruiters clearer, more trustworthy grading decisions by showing plain-language explanations for each qualification match and how those results affect the overall grade. By evaluating requirements individually, it improves accuracy and supports more fair hiring, including nuanced or non-numeric requirements. Detailed evidence and pointers to relevant resume sections also help recruiters assess fit faster, with less need for manual effort.
Changes
A new
Fit & Gap
interface is available on the candidate profile within Spotlight, which enables you to:
- View AI-powered comparisons of the candidate’s profile against basic and preferred qualifications directly on the candidate profile.
- View which requirements are met and not met, and how they influenced the candidate’s grade.
- Access an explanation for each evaluation conclusion and pointers to relevant sections in the candidate’s parsed profile, such as professional experience, education, skills, languages, certifications, and the resume summary.
These changes also include updated grading logic. Each qualification is now assessed directly instead of translating the qualifications through a fixed, preset framework:
- Basic qualifications determine whether a candidate is graded A/B or C/D.
- Candidates who meet all scoped basic qualifications receive an A or B.
- Final grade assignment further differentiates A from B and C from D based on preferred qualification match and basic qualification scores.

Setup Effort: What Do I Need to Do?
This feature is only available for customers who opt in. Contact Workday Support to enable it in 2 phases:
- Pilot on selected requisitions:
- Open a Workday Support case and provide the requisitions on which you want to enable the SpotlightFit & Gapenhancement.
- Workday applies the enhancement to those requisitions and their active applications.
- Review grading results and theFit & Gapexperience in the candidate profile.
- Request global rollout:
- After reviewing the pilot results, open a Workday Support case to request global rollout and specify your target cutover date.
- After global rollout, all applications for requisitions opened on or after that date are graded with the enhanced algorithm, and theFit & Gapinterface is visible for eligible requisitions. Existing requisitions opened before the specified date will continue to grade candidates using the existing version of the algorithm.
Create a support case type of Customer Care for each phase.
What Happens If I Do Nothing?
Your organization continues to use the existing Spotlight basic qualifications matching and final grade assignment.
Deployment Considerations
- Tenant Allocation and Testing:
- Enablement is coordinated only through HiredScore account configuration and/or a Workday Support ticket. Before a full rollout, your organization can test and validate this feature by selecting a limited set of requisitions as a pilot group in Production. If your organization has an active pre-Production environment integrated with HiredScore, you can also use this method to test the feature.
- AI Governance & Compliance:
- See theRelated Linkssection on this release note for resources on AI governance and compliance at Workday.
- Data Retention and Rollback Capabilities:
- For customers that enable theFit & Gapenhancement, HiredScore retains grading history that existed prior to enablement.
- Customers who opt in toFit & Gapcan later revert to the legacy algorithm by coordinating with Workday Support. You can also choose to have requisitions re-graded using the legacy algorithm.
