Concept: Document Type Allowances
When you create a workflow in Workflow Builder, you can configure document type allowances that enable users to upload documents, generate them from templates, or use both methods.
You can configure 1 of these options:
- Upload existing documents:Users can upload .doc or .docx files. You can enable additional formats as needed.
- Generate documents from templates:Users can create documents with predefined templates. We support clause placeholders and custom fields in templates for controlled customization.
- Enable both methods:Users can upload documents and generate them from templates in the same workflow.
Fields and Conditions
You can use templates that include preset and custom fields that capture data from intake forms.
You can configure these fields on the
Fields
tab during workflow setup.Preset Fields
We recommend including these commonly used fields in legal and contract documents:
- Agreement Date
- Contract Type
- Governing Law
- Master Agreement Date
Parties (internal or counterparty):

Custom Field Types
Custom fields enable greater flexibility. We initially label fields as
Unassigned
and you must name them to incorporate in the workflow.You can select these custom field types:

- Email
- Initials
- Monetary Value
- Number

When you assign these fields, we display them in the
Contract

When the workflow integrates with
Docusign
or Adobe Sign
, you can configure signature fields to:- Prepopulate with form data:Workday retrieves signer and party information from the intake form responses.
- Use placeholder tags:Tags from the e-signature platform support features such as signer reassignment and ensure accurate placement in the signature block.
