Create Work Types

Create Work Types

Have the
settings.admin
permission.
Work types determine how to allocate a worker’s time and are selected when a worker completes their timesheet.
Example: You create
Regular
and
Overtime
work types in
Manage Work Type Profiles
. A worker can select
Overtime
as a time type when they complete their weekly timesheet to allocate any hours they worked in addition to their regular working hours.
Work types impact rate calculation and you can use them in the Calculation Engine to build custom formulas in your tenant. See Steps: Create Formulas Using Calculation Engine.
  1. From the header, select
    More
    >
    Company Settings
    .
  2. Under
    Timekeeping
    , select
    Work Hours Types & Rates
    .
  3. On the
    Work Types
    tab, click
    Add New Row
    .
  4. Complete the task:
    Option Description
    Name
Displays on timesheets when contractors select it, or when VNDLY automatically classifies it. Examples: Regular or Overtime.
    Rate Type
    If you select:
Multiplier, the bill rate will be multiplied by the amount that you enter in the
    Value
    field.
Flat Rate, the bill rate will be added to the amount that you enter in the
    Value
    field.
    Pay Rate Multiplier
This field enables you to modify pay rates. Note that we no longer recommend using this field and instead recommend using the Calculation Engine in Company Settings. For more information, see Steps: Calculation Engine.
    Max Amount
This field is only necessary if you want to restrict the amount of units captured against a work type. If you enter 0, there will be no max amount for the work type.
    Taxable
Indicates whether or not time entered with this work type should be subject to taxes.
    Break
Indicates whether the work type can be associated with a break. This field can be beneficial for reporting purposes, particularly for organizations that pay a different rate for break time or are located in areas with specific break laws, such as California.
Paid breaks will have a multiplier of 1. Unpaid breaks will have a multiplier of 0.
When a break is added to a timesheet, a row in the Nonworking section will be added to reflect the break hours.
    Hours Classification
Required for the work type to be used on timesheets. This field is also beneficial for reporting purposes, and it can be used in the Calculation Engine to build conditional formulas based on a specific classification type.
    Options include:
    • Nonworking: This time won’t be used to determine overtime.
    • Automatic: Indicates the Standard work type. Auto classification uses the overtime profile rules assigned on the work order to classify entered time into the common time types.
    • Regular Time: Indicates the Regular work type, used with manual time entry.
    • Overtime: Indicates the Overtime work type, used with manual time entry.
    • Double Time: Indicates the Double Time work type, used with manual time entry.
    Enabled
This toggle must be turned on for the work type to be available for use on work type profiles.
You’ve created a work type. You can use the
Work Type Sort Order
drop-down menu to sort your results. The
ID (Low-High)
option is selected by default.
If you want contractors to be able to select the work type on a timesheet, you must add the work type to a work type profile. See Create Work Type Profiles.
