Example: Calculate Per Unit Tuition (Arithmetic Calculation)

This example illustrates 1 way to use an arithmetic calculation to calculate a value that is based on units, and includes these calculations:
  • Arithmetic
  • Constant Value
Alma Mater University charges tuition at a rate of 237 per billable unit that a student registers for in an academic unit. To calculate the total amount, you need to multiply the number of billable units with the tuition rate.
Security:
  • Set Up: Calculations - Generic
     domain in the Core Payroll functional area.
  • Access Calculation (Segmented)
     domain in the functional areas for Core Payroll, Implementation, Payroll Interface, and Time Off and Leave.
  • Set Up: Time Off (Calculations - Generic)
     domain in the Time Off and Leave functional area.
  1. Access the
    Create Arithmetic Calculation
     task.
  2. Enter or select these values:

    Academic Unit
    Leave blank.
    Comment
    Calculates tuition based on $237 per unit.

    This calculation is a Workday-delivered instance value calculation.

  3. Enter or select these values:

The calculation is available to use in a student charge item. When you assess charges to students for the charge item, Workday calculates the total charge amount based on the number of billable units that the students register for.
Create a student charge item for tuition and add the calculation to it.
