Example: Restore Calendar Policy Inheritance from Superior Academic Unit

This example illustrates how an academic unit can restore inheritance for their calendar policy from a superior academic unit.
You implemented multiple academic calendars across an institution, having to maintain each calendar separately. You want to streamline your calendars to inherit policies from the superior academic unit and maintain only 1 calendar.
The College of Engineering is on the Quarter calendar. The superior academic unit Alma Mater University is on the Semester calendar. The College of Engineering is moving to the Semester calendar effective 2024, so you want to reinherit the calendar policy from Alma Mater University at that time. You have to first make the calendar policy for the College of Engineering equivalent to the calendar policy for Alma Mater University. You can then reinherit the policy from the superior academic unit for the effective date.
  1. Access the
    Create Calendar Policy
     task.
    Security:
    Set Up: Academic Calendar
     domain in the Academic Foundation functional area.
  2. From
    Choose What to Configure
    , select:
    1. Alma Mater University - College of Engineering
       for
      Academic Unit
      .
    2. Undergraduate
       for
      Academic Level
      .
  3. Select
    Create New Policy or Edit Existing Policy
    .
  4. Click
    OK
    .
  5. As you complete this task, select these options:
    The values for
    Academic Calendar
    ,
    Typical Attendance Pattern
    , and
    Student Unit Type
     must match the superior academic unit.
    Option Description
    Academic Calendar
    Semester Academic Calendar
    Starting Academic Year
    Semester Year 2024-2025
    Typical Attendance Pattern
    Typical Semester Attendance
    Student Unit Type
    Semester - Units
    The 2 calendars are now equivalent, but the
    Inherited From
     field displays that the College of Engineering is still inheriting from itself. To avoid maintaining a separate calendar if the calendar policy for the superior academic unit changes in future, configure the calendar policy again to inherit from the superior.
  6. Access the
    Create Calendar Policy
     task.
  7. From
    Choose What to Configure
    , select:
    1. Alma Mater University - College of Engineering
       for
      Academic Unit
      .
    2. Undergraduate
       for
      Academic Level
      .
  8. Select
    Inherit from Superior Academic Unit
    .
  9. For
    Academic Year
    , select
    Semester Calendar Policy > Semester Year 2024-2025
    .
  10. Click
    OK
    .
  11. Review the confirmation page to verify the configuration in the
    Superior Policy Details
     and
    Subordinate Policy Details
     sections.
  12. Select the
    Confirm
     check box.
  13. Click
    OK
     and
    Done
    .
Confirm the calendar configuration for the College of Engineering from the
Academic Unit Policy Viewer
.
  • Select the
    Calendar Policy
     for Alma Mater University - College of Engineering Undergraduate.
  • On the
    Academic Unit Policies
     grid, verify that the latest snapshot displays
    Inherited From
     as the superior academic unit and
    As Of
     displays the 2024 date.
