Burst Reports
- Create a report group.
- Security: These domains in the System functional area:
- Maintain Excel Template
- Scheduled Report Processes
Instead of manually running a report for multiple organizations, you can schedule a
bursting set that generates a report for each organization in a prompt field.
Example: Create a bursting set for a financial report that generates 1 report for each
company.
- Access theEdit Report Grouptask.
- (Optional) Select theUse Excel Templatecheck box to attach report results to Microsoft Excel templates.Workday creates up to 200 sheets in a single workbook and delivers it toMy Reports.When you don't attach an Excel template, Workday creates a separate file for each organization you set to burst on.
- On theReportstab, set up theReport Promptsgrid.As you complete the grid, consider:
Option Description Prompt FieldSelect the organization type that you want to burst on. Examples:- Company
- Cost Center
- Supervisory Organization
Value TypeSelectBursting Set.Don't selectBursting Setfor more than 1Prompt Field. Selecting multiple fields to burst on might cause unexpected report behavior.FieldSelect a global calculated field to narrow down the organizations to include in the bursting set.Example: SelectActive Companiesfor aPrompt FieldofCompany.You can also create custom calculated fields that narrow down the list of organizations you want to include.If the prompt set for the report group has the same field, the value ofFieldoverrides the prompt set field value when you schedule the report group.Securing EntitySecure the report output based on the organization that you selected as thePrompt Fieldwhen using an Excel template. - On theShare Outputtab, set up sharing options for the report output.When you selectShare report output with other users, consider:
Option Description Securing EntitySelect the organization type that you want to use to secure report output. This is the same field that you select theSecuring Entitycheck box for on theReport Promptsgrid on theReportstab.Security GroupsSelect the role-based security group that you want to share the report output with.Example: SelectCompanyas theSecuring EntityandAccountantas theSecurity Groupsoption to:- Run the report for each company in your tenant.
- Send the report results to the accountant for each company.
- (Optional) Select from the related actions menu of the report group to attach an Excel template.If you can't access theMaintain Excel Templatemenu option, enable theMaintain Excel Templatedomain security policy in the System functional area.
