Concept: Dynamic Control Fields for Accounting Worktags

Dynamic control fields reduce the time and effort required to set up financial reports, enabling you to focus on analyzing data. It also minimizes the number of report copies, saving time and reducing the risk of errors. This feature allows you to tailor reports to your specific needs without creating multiple report definitions. Example: You can easily generate a trial balance report with customized combinations of accounting worktags.
The
Enable Dynamic Control Field
 check box to the Composite Options section on the Advanced tab of a composite report is available when the:
  • Data source for the subreport uses an accounting worktag type.
  • Report doesn't use dynamic data rows.
  • Report doesn't have an outline structure.
When you enable dynamic control fields in a composite report and add the worktag type as a report prompt, report users can select a maximum of 5 worktag types in their report filter. They can run the same report to see a different combination of worktag types.

Enabling Dynamic Control Fields for Accounting Worktags

To enable dynamic control fields in a composite report:
  1. In a composite report definition, go to the report settings.
  2. In the
    Advanced
     tab of the
    Composite Report Settings
    , select the
    Enable Dynamic Control Fields
     check box.
  3. (Optional) In
    Accounting Worktag Type
    , select fields that report users can see in the prompt. By default, the report prompt includes all Accounting Worktag Types.
  4. In the
    Prompts
     tab of the custom report definition, in the Report-Level Prompts section:
    1. Click
      Populate Undefined Prompts
      .
    2. Click
      Edit All
      .
    3. In the
      All Report Level Prompts
       grid, reorder the new
      Display Worktag Type
       prompt as needed.
    4. (Optional) Add a label for the prompt, example:
      Accounting Worktag Types
      . The default prompt label is
      Display Worktag Type
      .

Limitations

When you enable Dynamic Control fields for Accounting Worktag Types on Composite Reports, consider these limitations:
  • An outline structure isn't allowed for control fields or repeating column groups in the report.
  • The report can't have dynamic data rows.
  • Dynamic control fields don't support multiple levels of column headings.
  • Subreport data sources must be compatible with accounting worktag types and index enabled. Examples: Journal Lines for Financial Reporting, Supplier Invoice Lines, Plan Lines for Financial Reporting. For a list of supported data sources, see Reference: Composite Report Columns.
  • We don't support subreports using PRISM and Business Views report data sources.
The default style applied to column headings will also be applied to dynamic control fields.
