Steps: Configure Paid Sick Leave for British Columbia

The Paid Sick Leave feature uses Workday Time Tracking, Workday Payroll, and Workday Absence Management to:

Provide a customizable framework of building blocks such as pay component groups, pay calculations, and time calculations.

Capture all paid sick leave time for British Columbia workers.

Calculate sick leave pay based on all variables and eligibility requirements.

Access the

Maintain Time Calculation Tags

task to create a paid sick leave time off worktag. Example: BC Paid Sick Leave
.

Access the

Generate Paid Sick Leave Calendar Days

task to create calendar dates for paid sick leave.

When you run this task the first time, the start and end date fields are blank. On subsequent runs, the start date you entered the first time displays and you only need to extend the end date. Workday doesn't expect that you'll regularly change the start date. Example: 01/01/2026
to 12/31/2027

(Optional) Access the

Schedule Paid Sick Leave Calendar Update

task to set up a schedule to automatically extend the paid sick leave calendar.

Access the

Maintain Paid Sick Leave Configuration

task.

Enter an effective date. Example: 01/01/2026

In the

Worked Hours Calculation Tags

field, add the relevant tags.

These are likely the same tags as those that you have configured for your BC Statutory Holiday feature.

In the

Paid Sick Leave Calculation Tag

field, add the BC Paid Sick Leave
worktag that you created in step 1.

Set up a time off plan for BC sick pay. Add the BC Paid Sick Leave
worktag that you created in Step 1.

Update the pay component related calculation for the hourly rate to include the Paid Sick Leave Rate of Pay [CAN]
pay component group for any hourly earning included in the Paid Sick Leave pay calculation.

This is the equivalent PCRC to Statutory Holiday Rate of Pay [CAN]
for the Statutory Holiday pay calculation.

Create the Paid Sick Leave earning.

In the

Effective Date

field, enter the day the paid sick leave event begins.

The

Look Back Period (Days)

and

Look Back Reference Point

fields automatically populate.

Select

Do Not Recalculate During Retro

. Workday doesn't currently support retroactive paid sick leave functionality.

Edit your existing Statutory Holiday earning to include Paid Sick Leave hours and earnings.
