Set Up Simultaneous Compensation Changes

Set Up Simultaneous Compensation Changes

Security:
  • The
    Set Up: Staffing
domain in the Staffing functional area.
Understand the considerations of processing out-of-order compensation changes. See Concept: Out of Order Compensation Changes.
With an opt-in tenant configuration, you can enable users to initiate a compensation change event for a worker when that worker or group of workers currently has an in-progress compensation change event. You can opt in to enable users to initiate:
  • A
    Request Compensation Change
event for a worker who has an in-progress
    Request Quality Step Increase
    event
  • A
    Request Quality Step Increase
event for a worker who has an in-progress
    Request Compensation Change
    event.
  • A
    Request Compensation Change
event for a worker who has an in-progress
    Change Job
    event (with
    Compensation
    configured as a subprocess).
  • A
    Request Compensation Change
event for a worker who already has an in-progress
    Request Compensation Change
    event.
  • A mass compensation action for a group of workers who also have an in-progress
    Change Job
event. Possible mass compensation actions include:
    • Calculated Plan Assignment Updates by Position (through the
      Mass Operation Management
      task).
    • Compensation Step Adjustment (through the
      Mass Operation Management
      task).
    • Schedule Automatic Step Progression.
    • Set Up Compensation Step Adjustment.
You can opt out at any time, and existing in-progress events will complete as normal.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Functionality for Staffing Transactions
    task.
  2. Select an option in the
    Business Process Type
    field. Consider:
    Option Description
    Business Process Type
    Request Quality Step Increase
    You can initiate a
    Request Quality Step Increase
event for a worker who also has an in-progress
    Request Compensation Change
    event.
    Business Process Type
    Request Compensation Change
    You can initiate a
    Request Compensation Change
event for a worker who also has an in-progress:
    • Change Job
      event (if it includes
      Compensation
      as a subprocess).
    • Request Compensation Change
      event.
    • Request Quality Step Increase
      event.
    Compensation Mass Action
Select an available option under the
    Compensation Mass Action
    filter.
You can initiate a mass compensation action even if workers selected for the mass action have an in-progress
    Change Job
    event.
Example use case: You want to perform a mass
    Compensation Step Adjustment
event for a group of workers, but some of the workers in that group have an in-progress
    Change Job
event. You want to simultaneously process the mass
    Compensation Step Adjustment
    event and the
    Change Job
    events.
  3. Select
    OK
    .
  4. Add 1 or more rows. In the
    Functionality
field, select the in-progress event you want Workday to process simultaneously when you initiate the
    Business Process Type
you selected in the previous step.
  5. Select the
    Security Groups
that can initiate the action when a conflicting in-progress event exists, or enable it for all security groups by selecting
    All Security Groups
    in the
    Enabled for
    field.
Because this functionality can lead to unexpected assignment values and reporting results, Workday recommends that you configure your tenant setting to only allow trained security groups to initiate a simultaneous event.
  6. Select
    OK
    .
When you opt-in, Workday:
  1. Disables the validation that blocks you from initiating a compensation event when another compensation or
    Change Job
event is already in progress. Workday disables validation for initiating actions only. All subsequent business process steps will honor normal business process policies.
  2. Displays
In Progress and Future Dated Events
    on the
    Request Quality Step Increase
task if the worker has relevant events.
  3. Expects this tenant configuration to not introduce any change in behavior in the coordination of events during compensation review.
(U.S federal) For PAR-enabled compensation mass actions, Workday applies existing Personnel Action Request sequencing behavior. When the worker has another PAR event on the same effective date, Workday defaults the sequence number to 0 for the subsequent action. Standard PAR sequencing logic applies.
If you opt in to enable mass compensation actions during in-progress
Change Job
events, you can audit which workers will be affected by your mass compensation change. For example, if you want to initiate a mass
Compensation Step Adjustment
, you can identify workers who have an in-progress
Change Job
event and who are using Default compensation steps.
  1. Create a custom report that uses the
Simultaneous Events During Employee Compensation Event
    report field (on the
    Employee Compensation Event
business object and secured to the
    Worker Data: Staffing
domain in the Staffing functional area) to identify workers with in-progress
    Change Job
    events.
  2. (U.S. federal only) In your custom report, include the
    Personnel Action Request Sequence Number
    report field (on the
    Personnel Action
business object) to view workers who have had a PAR with Sequence #0 assigned as a result of your compensation mass action. You can assess whether you need to take further action on these PARs.
  3. Run the
    View Compensation Step Usage
report to identify which workers have default or override step assignments.
