Project managers and executives need insight into project performance indicators to assure organizations maintain business objectives. They need to know how projects are doing and how they can do better. Workday delivers a number of financial reports for projects.

Average Revenue by Project Role
Reports: Project Billing

Analyze how your project staffing relates to project revenue. Workday calculates the average revenue in the project currency by project role based on:
  • Total approved hours.
  • Total billings from invoice lines.
You can see when you use certain project roles more than others.
Comparative Revenue by Project
Reports: Projects
domain in the Projects functional area.
Analyze revenue trends for month-over-month and year-over-year revenue by project. You can customize this report to include quarterly analysis for project revenue using your existing time periods.
Fully Burdened Cost Rate for Worker
To access the report:
Reports: Fully Burdened Cost
in the Projects functional area.
To view data on the report, all of these:
  • Set Up: Fully Burdened Cost Rate
    in the Projects functional area. Grants access to the values under the
    Fully Burdened Cost Rate Calculation
    heading.
  • Worker Data: Compensation Factors for Fully Burdened Cost Rate
    in the Projects functional area. Grants access to the values under the
    Worker Compensation Factors
    heading.
  • Worker Data: Fully Burdened Cost
    in the Projects functional area. Grants access to the values under the
    Fully Burdened Cost Rate Factors
    heading.
You can run this report for workers who have a time block posted to a project. Analyze how Workday uses your configuration to determine the fully burdened cost rate for a specific worker. You can view:
  • The base rate, worker currency, and project currency conversion for the worker.
  • The formula Workday uses to calculate fully burdened labor costs.
  • The overhead rate rules for the worker, and the effective date of the fully burdened labor cost.
Project Billing Exceptions
To access the report:

  • Reports: Billing
    in the Customer Contracts and Project Billing functional areas.
View a list of all your projects with billable transactions that aren't ready to be billed, and the total number of affected transactions between them. Transactions may be unbillable, have a contract rate change which has not yet been applied to the time transaction, or have no billable rate. Only includes transactions with one of these:
  • A contract line type of Project Time and Expense, or Fixed Fee.
  • A status of Awaiting Review, or Ready to Bill for rate changes and missing rates.
  • A status of On Hold for missing rates only.
Project Budgetary Balance with Labor Cost
Both:
  • Reports: Projects
    in the Projects functional area.
  • Reports: Time Tracking
    in the Time Tracking functional area.
Compare your project budget to your actuals, including labor costs. Doesn't include ad hoc time blocks. View your project actuals and labor costs by the:
  • Current fiscal year.
  • Current period.
  • Life to date of your project.
Current Period amounts only populate for period-based budgets. Life to Date amounts populate for both period- or duration-based budgets.
You can run the report by company, or for all companies within a company hierarchy.

Analyze how direct and labor costs consume your profitability. Workday calculates:
  • Gross profit and labor margins.
  • Project revenue and related direct costs from journal lines and labor costs based on approved worker time.

Revenue Leakage

  • Month-over-month.
  • Year-over-year.
View Initial Project Budget Calculation

Examine the details of how Workday calculates project budget lines for draft and approved budgets sourced from:
  • Journal lines (actual revenue).
  • Resource forecasts (revenue and cost forecast).
  • Resource plan percentage allocation by project role (estimated cost and revenue).
  • Revenue recognition installments (revenue).
  • Resource plan estimated hours by project role (estimated cost and revenue).
  • Time blocks (actual costs).
