Reference: Period Statuses and Permitted Transactions

Ledger periods can have these statuses:
  • Created
  • Not Available
  • Open
  • Close in Progress
  • Adjustments Only
The status determines which activities you can process in that period.

Permitted Transactions
Considerations
Created
Reversal journals.
Periods have the
Created
status when they are created. Most transactions are not permitted until you set the status to
Open
.
Workday can create reversal journals in periods that have the
Created
status, but it can't post them until you open the period.
Not Available
Reversal journals.
When you open a period in error, you can set the status to
Not Available
to restrict users from processing transactions in that period.
Workday can create reversal journals in periods that have this status.
Open
All journals.
This is the standard status for an active accounting period.
Close in Progress
Depends on the status of period close activity groups.
Adjustment journals.
This status provides granular control over the period-end close process. When a period has the
Close in Progress
status, the status of period close activity groups determines which transactions are permitted. You can selectively close certain activity groups while leaving others open.
Example: You could close the Customer Accounts activity group to prevent new customer invoices while still allowing entries in the Journals activity group.
You can use the
Maintain Period Close Activity Groups
to assign transactions to period close activity groups.
You can always create adjustment journals in this status.
Adjustments Only
Adjustment journals.
In this status, you can only create and post adjustment journals. This is useful for making final adjustments after closing while preventing other types of transactions.
Adjustment journals are accounting journals that have the
Adjustment Journal
check box selected.
Closed
No journals.
You can't process transactions in ledger periods that have the
Closed
status.
