You can use a custom report to calculate average daily balances without the need to configure average daily balance rules or run the average daily balance job.
You can report on average daily balance:
  • For a single company or company hierarchy.
  • For multinational companies within a company hierarchy.
  • For ledger currency or translated currency.
  • As of a specific end date.
Workday supports eliminations on interworktag, intercompany, and noncontrolling interest (NCI) in average daily balance reporting. To include NCI, you must opt in to run persisted NCI by ownership.
  1. Access the
    Create Custom Report
    task.
  2. Select a report type.
When you want to report on both average daily balances and translated average daily balances, create a matrix or advanced report.
  3. For
    Data Source
    , select
    Journal Lines for Financial Reporting
    .
  4. For
    Data Source Filter
    , select:
    • Journal Lines for Company Average Daily Balance and Ending Balance Reporting
to filter journal lines by company.
    • Journal Lines for Organization Average Daily Balance and Ending Balance Reporting
to filter journal lines by organization.
  5. Add the
    Average Daily Balance
    or
    Translated Average Daily Balance
summarization fields on the Journal Line business object.
When you need to report using both, you can create a:
    • Matrix or advanced report that contains both fields.
    • Composite report with the fields on separate subreports.
When you add both summarization fields to a matrix or advanced report, the user must select
Calculate Ledger Amount for Translated Beginning Balances
    from the
    Additional Options
prompt when they run the report.
Workday recommends you don’t configure these report fields with any other data source filters, or use the average daily balance filters without these fields.
  6. Define additional report fields and dimensions you want to include in your report.
    Don't add the
    Translated Debit Minus Credit
    or
    Translated Credit Minus Debit
report fields as the average daily balance data source filters don't support these fields.
  7. Click
    OK
    to save the report.
Workday creates a custom report.
Run your report.
In the
Amount Type
prompt, select either
Average Daily Balance
or
Ending Balance
.
Select a start date and end date within one fiscal year for the selected company and fiscal schedule. When you select the
Average Daily Balance
amount type and dates greater than one year, the report returns no results.
When you select
Average Daily Balance
and leave the
Start Date
prompt blank, Workday defaults to the selected end date.
For translated average daily balance and ending balance:
  • Select the
    Calculated Translation Gain or Loss
check box to derive the calculated translation gain or loss. The currency translation adjustment is calculated on the end date.
  • When the report is a matrix or advanced report that contains both summarization fields, select
Calculate Ledger Amount for Translated Beginning Balances
    from the
    Additional Options
prompt. Otherwise, don't select this option.
