Set Up Wave Picking at Inventory Sites

  • Activate wave picking, by selecting
    Enable Wave Picking
    on the
    Picking
    tab of the
    Maintain Inventory Site
    task.
  • Configure the sequence generator for inventory waves at either the tenant or company level:
    • Configure the
      ID Generator for Inventory Waves
      field on the
      Edit Tenant Setup - Financials
      task to assign 1 numbering sequence for all companies.
    • Configure the
      Default ID Generator for Inventory Waves
      field on the
      Edit Company ID Definitions
      task to assign unique numbering at the company level.
  • Security:
    Process: Inventory Pick List - Create/Edit
    domain in the Inventory functional area.
You can use wave picking to group picking lists together for an inventory site to better organize, prioritize and simplify your process of assigning tasks to pickers. Additionally, wave picking provides the necessary framework for implementing batch picking, allowing for more detailed control over the picking workflow.
  1. Access the
    Create Inventory Waves
    task.
  2. As you complete the task, consider:

    Run Frequency
    You select Run Now or create a schedule.
    Request Name
    Enter a unique name for your request.
    Inventory Site
    Select the inventory site for which you want to group picking lists.
    The inventory site must have:
    • Enable Wave Picking
      selected on the
      Picking
      tab.
    • Picking lists assigned to it.
    Inventory Pick Lists
    Select valid picking lists you want to group in a wave.
    Picking lists must have a status of
    Open
    and not already selected in another wave.
    Maximum Number of Pick Lists
    Choose a number of picking lists you want to include in the wave.
    You can choose between 1 and 999.
  3. Click
    OK
    .
  4. Click
    Refresh
    to complete the process.
Workday creates different inventory waves, each wave consisting of different picking lists. You can then instruct the inventory specialist to work on all picking lists in Wave 1 before working on Wave 2.
(Optional) To view an inventory wave and the picking lists associated with each wave:
  1. Access the
    Find Inventory Picking List
    report or the
    Mass Assign and Print Pick Lists
    task.
  2. Select the inventory wave for which you want to see the details.
  3. From the related actions of the wave, click the magnifying glass icon.
