Concept: Data Agents

Data agents are extensible components that you install on your computer to:
- Extract information from:
- JDBC-compliant databases.
- Scripted data sources.
- Remote and on-premise sources inaccessible to other data sources.
- Provide secure access to applications and manage connections to your Adaptive Planning instances.
Adaptive Planning data agents only connect to on-premises databases. Connecting to cloud databases with an agent isn't supported.
Workday Adaptive Planning Data Agent Manager
The Workday Adaptive Planning Data Agent Manager installation includes a desktop utility, the Workday Adaptive Planning Data Agent Manager, which:
- Installs as a Java application and runs as a Windows service.
- Enables you to set up and configure the Data Agent Service.
- Manages your data agents from behind your firewall.
- Provides access to specific data that you request.
Each instance of the Data Agent Service you install hosts one or more data agents.
Adaptive Planning Gateway
When the Data Agent Service runs, it long-polls the Adaptive Planning Gateway. The Gateway:
- Runs as a server brokering communication through your firewall to the Data Agent Service.
- Receives requests from Adaptive Planning on behalf of all data agents hosted by the service.
