Build Lever Modeled Sheets for Predictive Forecaster

  • Identify the forecast sheet. The forecast sheet is the sheet that you’ll select in the
    Forecast
    section of
    Predictive Forecaster
    .
  • Make note of the levels, accounts, and custom dimensions on the forecast sheet. You’ll add these elements to the lever sheet.
  • Identify the smallest time period used on the forecast sheet.
  • Security:
    Model includes: sheets, accounts, dimensions, and formulas
    permission.
Lever modeled sheets hold regressor data that influence your machine learning (ML) forecast. You can use lever sheets for certain algorithms. The values you enter in the lever sheet adjust the algorithm calculations that populate in the forecast sheet.
Base the elements of your lever sheet on your financial KPI.
Example: You must forecast the units sold for products by region in your Product Revenue cube sheet. The units sold is the metric that you're forecasting using Predictive Forecaster. Product promotion is a business lever for regional units sold. To pass the historical and future promotions to the machine learning algorithm, you load the data into a lever sheet. The lever sheet should include the Units Sold account on the cube sheet, Product dimension, relevant levels, and a timespan so that you can load the promotion details.
The first column must be a text column for the account and the second column must be a level column.
  1. Select
    Modeling
    from the main menu.
  2. Click
    Level Assigned Sheets
    or
    User Assigned Sheets
    .
  3. Click
    New Sheet
    .
  4. As you complete the form:

    Name
    Enter a unique name for the sheet. This is the name that displays in the
    Lever Sheet
    drop-down menu in the
    Algorithm
    section of the
    Predictive Forecaster
    page.
    Create New Sheet
    Select
    Modeled
    . Then, from the drop-down prompt that displays next, select
    Blank Modeled Sheet (advanced)
    .
    Account Code
    Enter a unique code. This code displays as the prefix for account codes in the sheet.
  5. Click
    Next
    .
  6. Click
    Columns and Levels
    .
  7. From the canvas, highlight the row with
    Level
    in the
    Type
    column, and for:
    • Name
      in
      General Properties
      section: Enter
      Level Name
      .
    • Levels
      tab in the
      Level Properties
      section: Select the check box next to at least 1 level that also exists on the forecast sheet. Add levels that also exist on the forecast sheets. You don't need to add all the levels that exist on the forecast sheet.
  8. From the
    Elements
    tab on the left panel, select
    Data Entry Columns
    to expand your options.
  9. Drag
    Text
    into the canvas above the
    Level
    row.
  10. For the
    General Properties
    :
    • Enter
      Account
      in the
      Name
      field.
    • Enter anything that makes sense to you in the
      Code
      field.
    • Leave the check boxes cleared.
  11. (Optional) To add custom dimensions, from the left panel, click
    Back to Elements
    and click
    Dimensions
    .
  12. Drag and drop the custom dimensions to the canvas after the
    Text
    row.
    When you skip this step, the algorithm uses the timespan values provided in the lever sheet for all dimension splits.
    Don’t add custom dimensions that don't exist on the forecast sheet.
  13. Click
    Back to Elements
    and select
    Time
    to expand the options.
  14. Drag
    Timespan
    into the canvas as the last row.
  15. From the toolbar, click
    Sheet Properties
    and select the
    Settings
    tab.
  16. For the
    Select the time stratum associated with this modeled sheet
    prompt, select the smallest time period used by the forecast sheet.
  17. Click
    Save
    .
