Import Custom Property Values to Dimension Values
- Security:Model includes sheets, accounts, dimensions, and formulaspermission.
When a custom dimension has custom properties, you can assign numerical values to the custom dimension’s values.
The custom property name displays in the
Custom Properties
section of the dimension value. There’s a text box field next to it where you can enter the numerical value. The main use case for custom properties is for territory planning. You can use custom properties to create longitude and latitude values for geo maps. Otherwise, the custom property serves as informational indicators for the custom dimension values.
You can add and edit the custom property coordinates manually in the
Dimension
area of Modeling
. Or, you can do it in bulk with the:- The dimension structure template. The template enables you to edit custom properties and custom property values.
- The updateDimensions API. The API can only edit custom property values.
- SelectModelingfrom the main menu.
- ClickDimensions.
- From the toolbar, clickGenerate Printable View.
- Open the Excel file.
- Add the numerical values to the column names that match the name of the custom property.Example: You created a custom property called Longitude.
- Enter the longitude coordinate in theLongitudecolumn for the dimension values.
- Save the spreadsheet.
- Return toModeling>Dimensions.
- From the toolbar, select Import dimension structure.
- SelectUpdate and Append.
- Upload the spreadsheet.
Your geographic custom dimension is called Geo. You already added 2 custom properties to the dimension: Latitude and Longitude. San Francisco is a dimension value for Geo.
To add the coordinates:
- ClickGenerate Printable View.
- Open the spreadsheet.
- In the row for San Francisco, enter37.7749in theLatitudecolumn.
- Enter-122.431297on theLongitudecolumn.
- Save the spreadsheet.
- Import the spreadsheet using theUpdate and Appendoption.
You can download these sample import templates for coordinate date. After you download, you can add the geographic regions that you need and import them.
