Add Custom Dimensions to Modeled Sheets

Start a New Sheet or Get to the Sheet Summary to Edit Sheets .

Security: Model includes sheets, accounts, dimensions, and formulas
permission.

You can add any custom dimension that you have in your model to a modeled sheet as a column. When you add custom dimensions as a column to your modeled sheet, you enable your users to select dimension values from a drop-down menu in the sheet cells. The custom dimension values can drive value and spread lookups, calculations in calculated accounts, or they can provide information. You can also reference them in formulas.

The list displays all custom dimensions.

Drag a custom dimension into the canvas.

As you complete the fields in the right panel, consider:

Name	The name defaults to the name of the custom dimension. You can enter a different name. The name displays as the header column on the sheet. See Reference: Naming Conventions Best Practices .
Code	Read only. You can change the code for the custom dimension in Modeling > Dimensions .
Read Only	Select to lock data in the column for sheet users, preventing them from changing the data (except by Import). Clear this check box if you want to select the Required Column check box.
Edit dimension on sheet	Select to add an Edit dimension option to the drop-down list in the cells of the column. Users with the Edit Dimension on Sheet permission can create new selections for the list or change the selections. When you also add spread or value lookups, enabling sheet users to add more options leaves blanks for the spread and value lookups.
Recalculate on Match	Available when you: Enable Recalculate on Demand. Triggers automatic recalculation of other rows with matching dimension values.
Split	Only displays when you have enabled splits in the Sheet Properties . See Change Sheet Properties of Modeled Sheets. Enables users to split the rows and enter different values for the columns. Use caution when you enable splits for columns in sheets that already have data. You might remove the existing data for the rows that have been split by other columns.
Required column	Select when you want to prevent users from saving unless they select a dimension value for the rows. You can still import data while leaving the column blank. To save this setting, clear the Read Only check box. Not available for instances with Excel Interface for Planning.
Allow users to hide columns in Display Options	Enables users to hide and unhide the column from the Display Options . To select this check box, clear the Required Column check box. You must submit a customer support case to enable this option.
Dimension Properties	See Change Level Availabilities in Sheets.

(Optional.) Add Spread Lookups to Modeled Sheets.

Add expressions for each option. The expressions distribute values of a source account into a calculated account within the same sheet.

(Optional.) Add Value Lookups to Modeled Sheets.

Add values for each option that populate into another account.

Save your changes.

The column displays on modeled sheets. When users click in the cells, an drop-down arrow displays. When they click the arrow, a list of custom dimension values displays for them to select.
