Reference: Copy and Paste

The results of copy and paste in Adaptive Planning vary depending on:
  • The content you copy.
  • Where you paste.
You can copy data from:
  • An Excel spreadsheet.
  • Other Adaptive Planning sheets.
  • Within the same Adaptive Planning sheet.
Standard copy and paste commands speed up data entry in Adaptive Planning sheets:
  • Ctrl-C
  • Ctrl-V
  • Ctrl-X
Toggle between pasting values or formulas by clicking the
Copy Mode
button on the toolbar.

General Rules

Copy
In Adaptive Planning sheets, copy:
  • Gray cells.
  • Blue cells.
  • White cells with:
    • Numerical data.
    • Formulas.
    • Dates.
    • Text.
    • Drop-down values.
    • Anything you select.
Copy text from any other document.
Cut
Any white or blue cells.
You can't cut data from a gray cell.
Paste
  • To any white or blue cells. For blue cells (time, account, or dimension rollups), you must break back the value.
  • You can't paste into read-only cells. When you copy a range of cells and paste into a range, the paste ignores any read-only cells in your selection.
  • In drop-downs, the pasted value must be an available option in the drop-down.
  • When you paste text into a numeric cell, the text is treated as a formula. Invalid formulas generate errors.
You can align the sheets you cut or copy with the sheet you're pasting.
Example: If your Excel file doesn't include Quarter rollups, hide the Quarter rollups of your Adaptive Planning sheet. Copy or cut cells into cells with like-kind data:
  • Rollups into rollups.
  • Formulas into numeric cells.
  • Text into text cells.

Cut, Copy, or Paste Multiple Cells

When you copy or cut a range of cells:
  • Make your paste selection the same number of columns and rows as your copy/cut selection.
  • Be mindful of read-only and rollup cells in your paste selection.
  • You don't copy the formulas.

Cut, Copy, or Paste in Modeled Sheets

When you copy records to add new records, first add at least 1 row. Paste multiple new rows into the new row. The sheet creates rows to accommodate the size of the paste.
When you hide columns on sheets or sheets on dashboards:
  • We don't include any hidden column values when you copy and paste a data range.
  • Copied split columns don't paste the values from hidden columns.
We copy and paste hidden values when you copy rows.
