Configure Categories for NetSuite Basic

NetSuite Basic is no longer the recommended integration method. For optimal performance and to access the latest features, we recommend that you transition to NetSuite Integrations. For detailed information about NetSuite Integrations, see Concept: Integrate With NetSuite.
Before you perform the first import from NetSuite, you must map the NetSuite categories your account uses to the corresponding dimensions in Workday Adaptive Planning. This configuration defines how NetSuite categories such as Subsidiary, Department, Class, Location, Item, and Customer relate to dimensions like Account, Level, a level within the organization structure, or your custom dimensions.
These mapping associations are aspects of NetSuite Integration that don’t change frequently. They determine the choices that you can use when you map category values, either during the import process or on the
NetSuite Category Mappings
page.
The associations can be more complex than a one-to-one relationship:
  • Many-to-One: You can map multiple NetSuite categories to a single Adaptive Planning dimension. When you do this, the values in those categories are concatenated and mapped at one time like they’re 1 category. Example: If you associate both Department and Location with the Level dimension, the import mapping choices might display as combined values like
    Engineering - US
    or
    Sales - London
    .
  • One-to-Many: You can associate a single NetSuite category with multiple Adaptive Planning dimensions. When you do this, the mapping displays for all of those dimensions.
Example: If you associate the Class category with both the Region and Product dimensions, the import mapping screen displays the class in each dimension. Because of this display, you can map the class Americas: Product A to both:
  • Americas
    in the Region dimension.
  • Product A
    in the Product dimension.
  1. Access the
    NetSuite Category Mappings
    page in NetSuite.
We display these categories on this page:
    • Class
    • Customer
    • Department
    • Item
    • Location
    • Subsidiary
Next to each of these categories, we display a prompt that contains all of the dimensions in your Adaptive Planning instance, including:
    • Account.
    • Any custom dimensions.
    • Level.
    • N/A.
  2. For each NetSuite category, select the corresponding Adaptive Planning dimension on the prompt:
    • If a NetSuite category isn’t in use or doesn’t map to any dimension, select
      N/A
      .
    • To map multiple NetSuite categories to 1 Adaptive Planning dimension, select that dimension on the prompt for each category.
    • To map 1 NetSuite category to multiple Adaptive Planning dimensions, select
      Add link
next to the category to add additional prompts. You can map a category with up to 4 Adaptive Planning dimensions.
  3. Select
    Save
    .
After you complete your category configurations, the NetSuite subtab link on the
Import
tab goes to the
NetSuite Category Mappings
page instead of the configuration page.
The mappings between NetSuite categories and Adaptive Planning dimensions are saved. These configurations determine the options presented on the
NetSuite Category Mappings
page after you import data and need to map NetSuite category values to Adaptive Planning dimension values.
  • Perform an import from NetSuite to populate the category values.
  • On the
    NetSuite Category Mappings
page, map the specific NetSuite category values to the corresponding dimension values in Adaptive Planning. The list of available NetSuite category values remains empty until you perform the import and populate those values.
