Concept: Left Scroll Limit

Concept: Left Scroll Limit

The
Left scroll limit
is a setting that controls how far back in time you can see of the plan version on sheets. You select the largest time strata of your calendar, most commonly the fiscal year.
Example: For a calendar with a Month > Quarter > Year and a
Left scroll limit
of
FY-2014
, you can use the display options in sheets to see as far back as January 2014.

Calendars

The
Left scroll limit
must start at least 3 time periods after the first period of your calendar. Otherwise the initial balance for the start of your version doesn't calculate correctly.
Example: For a month-based calendar that begins on October 2016, select
January 2017
or later for the
Left scroll limit
.

Start of Plan and End of Plan

The
Left scroll limit
must come before both the:
  • Start of plan
    .
  • End of plan
    .

Actuals Overlay

Time periods between the
Left scroll limit
and the
Start of plan
displays data from the actuals version.
Example: The plan settings are:
  • Left scroll limit:
    FY-2014
    .
  • Start of Plan:
    January 2015
    .
On sheets, you see actuals overlay from January 2014 to December 2014.
When the actuals version has a
Completed values through
date that is earlier than the
Start of plan
, you see actuals overlay up to the
Completed values through
period.
Example: The plan settings are:
  • Left scroll limit:
    FY-2014
    .
  • Start of Plan:
    January 2015
    .
The actuals setting is
June 2014
for
Completed values through
.
You see actuals overlay from January 2014 to June 2014.

Initial Balances

Moving the
Left scroll limit
forward in time affects initial balance columns in modeled sheets.
The initial balance column in modeled sheets is an account that is often called Pay Rate. The initial balance cell displays the time period before
Left scroll limit
of the version. The account uses a formula to adjust the value for each time period in the timespan. When you shift
Left scroll limit
forward, you also shift the designated time period for the initial balance.
Example: The
Left scroll limit
is
January 2014
. The initial balance displays the value of the previous period: January 2013. The formula of the account increases the value period-to-period, in this case yearly:
Initial Balance (January 2013)
January 2014
January 2015
January 2016
100
200
300
400
When you shift the
Left scroll limit
1 year forward, the sheet updates:
Initial Balance (January 2014)
January 2015
January 2016
200
300
400

Deleting Data

If you move the
Left scroll limit
forward, you delete all the data of that version before your new
Left scroll limit
date. Example: You shift the
Left scroll limit
from
FY-2014
to
FY-2016
. You delete all the data in 2014 and 2015 for the version.

Default Version

You can't move the
Left scroll limit
forward for the default plan version, only backward.
