Start a New Sheet

Start a New Sheet

Security:
Model includes: sheets, accounts, dimensions, and formulas
permission.
Build sheets to import actuals and plan data and to let team members view and change data. Starting sheets is the first step. You can build 3 types of sheets:
  • Standard: Basic grid of accounts, levels, and time.
  • Modeled: List of records that can automate calculations in other accounts.
  • Cube: Complex grid with dimensionalized data.
  1. From the nav menu, click
    Modeling
    .
  2. From the
    Sheets
    menu, click the sheet type. As you complete the task, consider:

    Level Assigned Sheet
    Team members can open the sheet if they have access to the levels you assign to the sheet.
    User Assigned Sheet
    Team members can open the sheet if you assign the sheet to them.
  3. Click
    New Sheet
    from at the end of the sheet list.
  4. Enter a unique name in the
    Sheet name
    field.
    Avoid using emojis in names.
  5. As you complete the remaining fields, consider:

    Create new sheet
    Starts the sheet. From the drop-down prompt, select:
    • Standard
    • Modeled
      • Capital
        : Use prebuilt template.
      • Personnel
        : Use prebuilt template.
      • Sales
        : Use prebuilt template.
      • Blank modeled sheet (advanced)
        : design your own modeled sheet.
    • Cube
    Clone existing sheet
    Starts a copy of a modeled sheet only. Select an existing modeled sheet from the drop-down prompt.
    You can only clone modeled sheets.
    Sheet code
    Displays when you create modeled or cube sheets.
    Best practice: Enter a code that's close to the sheet name. The code is the first part of all the account codes you add to the sheet. When you add formulas or import account updates, you reference the account codes, including the sheet code as a prefix.
    Create as Merged Cube
    Available when you create new cube sheets.
    Merged cube sheets combine the dimensions and use the data of up to 3 other cube or modeled sheets.
  6. Click
    Next
    .
  • For standard sheets: The wizard takes you to the next step.
  • For cube or modeled sheet, the sheet summary displays with links to next steps. You build and change the components of the sheet from the sheet summary.
For standard sheets, you can:
  • Add accounts and account groups.
  • Click
    Cancel
    to save your work for later.
For cube sheets, you can click:
  • Cube Accounts
    to add accounts.
  • Dimensions, Attributes, and Levels
    to add columns, custom dimensions and attributes, manage the sheet settings, and manage the availability of levels and dimension values.
  • Restrictions
    to add restrictions based on the dimension intersections.
    Example: Hide certain accounts for certain levels or versions. This option isn't available for merged cube sheets.
  • Accessibility
    to add users who can view and change the sheet data.
    This option is available for user-assigned sheets only.
  • Done
    to save your work for later.
For modeled sheets, you can click:
  • Modeled Accounts
    to add assumption and calculated accounts, including settings, formulas, names, and codes.
  • Columns and Levels
    to add columns, dimensions and attributes, assign levels, create lookups per column, and change the sheet settings.
  • Accessibility
    to assign users who can view and edit the data of the sheet.
    Available for user-assigned sheets only.
  • Validation Rules
    to create data requirements for the columns.
  • Done
    to save your work for later.
Incomplete sheets display red in the sheet list. To complete the sheet, or make changes to the sheet, click the
Edit
link next to the name of the sheet.
