Concept: Data Sources
You can create data sources in
Design Integrations
to extract data
from other sources into Adaptive Planning. Data sources enable you to organize, manage, and
maintain the data coming into Adaptive Planning. Using data sources also enables you to
review and change the data before you load it into Adaptive Planning. Some data sources are branded adapters. As the source systems upgrade or update, adapters
keep Adaptive Planning compatible.
To use some data sources, you might need to configure credentials in
Design
Integrations
. The credential contains the information that you need to
authorize and authenticate with your source system.Depending on the type of data source you're creating, we'll prompt you to provide different
information, such as:
- Credentials or sign-ins.
- Configuration information on the tables or columns to extract.
- The level of detail you want in connection logs.
- Other settings Adaptive Planning needs to access data.
Use Cases for Data Sources
You can create multiple data sources. Example: You can use 1 data source to import sales
orders, a second to import sales expenses, and a third to import sales revenue. All 3
data sources could use the same source system, or each could use a different source
system.
With data sources you can:
- Create new columns derived from extracted data.
- Use SQL filters and table joins to select the data you want to import.
- Change the data type of extracted data. Example: You can swap from integers to text.
