Add Timespan and Initial Balance Columns to Modeled Sheets

Get to the Sheet Summary to Edit Sheets or Start a New Sheet.

Security: Model includes: sheets, accounts, dimensions, and formulas
permission.

Timespan

columns in modeled sheets display time periods as columns. They also enable your team to enter data into the cells. When you add a

Timespan

column, you automatically create a timespan account in the account hierarchy of the modeled sheet. Example: On an Asset Planning sheet, name the

Timespan

column Purchase Price
. Then users enter the cost of various assets for each month in the columns. You can then refer to the timespan account for a spread lookup that distributes the value of the assets into an Asset Depreciation account.

Initial Balance

columns display as a data entry column on modeled sheets. Example: On a Personnel sheet, name the

Initial Balance

column Pay Rate
. Users can enter the pay rate of each employee to plan personnel expenses.

From the sheet summary, click

Columns and Levels

From the

Elements

tab, expand

Data Entry Columns

Drag

Timespan

Initial Balance

into the center panel.

Select the

Timespan

Initial Balance

element from the center panel.

As you complete the

General Properties

, consider:

Opción	Descripción
Name	Enter a name for the column. Displays as the column header in the sheet. See Reference: Naming Conventions Best Practices .
Code	Enter a unique code. You can refer to this code in formulas.
Read only	Select to lock the cells in the columns so that users can't change the data.
Show total at bottom	Select to add a read-only row visible to sheet users. This row sums the data in the column. When both parent and child row splits are visible on the sheet, we only total the parent rows.
Split	Only displays when you have enabled splits in the Sheet Properties . See Change Sheet Properties of Modeled Sheets. Enables users to split the rows and enter different values for these columns. Use caution when you enable splits for columns in sheets that already have data. You might remove the existing data for the rows that have been split by other columns.
Allow users to hide columns in Display Options	You must submit a customer case to to enable this option. For Initial Balance only. Select to enable usres to hide the column from their view. Clear to prevent sheet users from hiding the columns.
Account Details	Available after you save. You can link to the account details in the account hierarchy of the modeled sheet.

You automatically create corresponding data-entry accounts when you add

Timespan

and

Initial Balance

columns.

The columns display in the modeled sheet. Users can enter numerical data into the cells.
