Create Custom Properties for Custom Dimensions
- Security:Model includes sheets, accounts, dimensions, and formulaspermission.
You can create up to 5 custom properties for each custom dimension. After you create the custom property, it displays in the settings of the dimension values. You can then assign a numerical property to the dimension values.
You can use custom properties to create:
- Longitude and latitude values for geo maps. Geo maps are available for territory planning, a capability available with Sales Planning.
- Informational indicators for custom dimension values. Example: Use the properties to associate an external database identifier with each dimension value. Or associate an owner with each dimension value, such as a product owner for each product dimension.
Remember that custom properties aren’t available in reports.
You can’t import new custom properties. You can edit custom properties labels when you update and append the dimension structure with Excel imports.
- SelectModelingfrom the main menu.
- ClickDimensions.
- From the dimension list, select the dimension.
- In theCustom Propertiesarea, clickAdd property.
- Enter a name in the field. The name of the custom properties can’t have the same name as existing dimensions and attributes. Example: When you have a dimension called Region, you can’t also have a custom property, called Region.
- Save.
The dimension values of the dimension now have a text box field in the
Custom Properties
section. The text field has the name that you entered for the custom property as the label. Geo maps are commonly used in territory planning, which is available for sales planning instances. Geo maps require a custom dimension with dimension values that correspond to actual geographical regions. You can do this by creating latitude and longitude coordinates with custom properties.
You can use either a list dimension or a hierarchical dimension. Hierarchical dimensions for geo maps let you analyze data along the hierarchy. Example: With a dimension that has values by zip codes that roll up to counties, that roll up to states, that roll up to countries, you can view a broad regional perspective of aggregate data for countries, then narrow down along the hierarchy.
To create custom properties for latitude and longitude for the Geo dimension:
- From the dimension list, selectGeo.
- From theCustom Propertiessection, clickAdd property.
- EnterLongitudein the field.
- ClickAdd property.
- EnterLatitudein the field.
- Save.
Next, assign latitude and longitude coordinates to each of the Geo dimension’s values.
