Troubleshooting: Unable to Change Data Because Sheet Cells Are Locked

Troubleshooting: Unable to Change Data Because Sheet Cells Are Locked

Cause
Solution
You don't have permission to change this data.
Work with your security administrator to ensure that you have access to these permissions:
  • Editable Sheet Access
    .
  • Access Salary Detail
if the sheet, account, or cell contains salary data.
This version is locked.
Select a version that isn't locked. On the
Version
prompt, we display a lock icon next to locked versions.
You didn't select a leaf-level account, level, or dimension.
For all sheets, expand the rows until they can no longer be expanded.
For modeled and standard sheets, select a level or account without sublevels or subaccounts on the
Levels
prompt on the toolbar. We display an expand/collapse icon next to levels and accounts with sublevels or subaccounts.
For cube sheets, select a value that you can't expand on each dimension filter along the top of the sheet. If you don't know which filters are dimensions, ask your administrator.
Your sheet is displaying actuals overlay. If the font is green in a cell and you're looking at a planning version, this data is actuals data that can't be changed.
Access the actuals version for the time period and change data there.
This data is calculated using a formula. If the cell contains a blue triangle and is gray, this data is calculated from data entered on other accounts.
Select the cell and look at the formula bar to see the account being referenced in the formula.
If you have access to that account in another sheet, change the source data.
This account is linked. Linked accounts pull data from another account and are locked.
Change the data in the source account:
  1. Right-click the cell that you want to change and select
    Explore Cell
    .
  2. Select the account in the
    Link
    section.
  3. On the new
    Explore Cell
window, select the sheet where you might be able to change the data.
This account is read only.
Ask your model administrator to:
  1. Edit this standard sheet in
    Model Administration
    .
  2. Select
    Account Groups
    .
  3. Select the account.
  4. Clear the
    Read Only
    check box.
The account is read-only for the selected level.
Ask your administrator to unlock the account in the Customization of Sub-Levels area of the standard sheet in Modeling:
  1. Select
    Modeling
    from the main menu.
  2. Click
    Level Assigned Sheets
    or
    User Assigned Sheets
    .
  3. Click
    Edit
    next to the standard sheet.
  4. Click
    Customization of Sub-Levels
    .
  5. From the
    Accounts
    tab, select the account.
  6. Click the check boxes next to the levels until the checkmark displays. The checkmark indicates that users can edit the account for the level.
  7. Click
    Save and Close
    .
The account is an assumptions account.
You must select the Top (Only) level to change data in assumption accounts.
This modeled sheet doesn't contain rows. We lock modeled sheets with no rows.
Add rows and enter data on those rows.
These cells are modeled or cube accounts on a standard sheet. We lock modeled or cube accounts on standard sheets. Modeled account data is a result of complex calculations in the background. Cube account data is multidimensional and complex.
Change the data in the modeled or cube sheets for these accounts:
  1. Right-click the cell that you want to change and select
    Explore Cell
    .
  2. Select the modeled or cube sheet of the account from the list of sheets.
This sheet currently suppresses zeroes and blanks.
  1. On the toolbar, select
    Display Options
    .
  2. Clear the
Suppress rows if all zeros or blanks
    check box.
This standard sheet uses mixed time configurations. When standard sheets use accounts with different time configurations, we display the largest common time period. For the accounts with smaller time periods, we display this data as locked time rollups.
To change these smaller time periods, right-click the account row and select
View by Level
.
This cube sheet is a merged cube sheet, which can only contain calculated or metric accounts.
Change the data in source sheets for those calculated and metric accounts:
  1. Right-click the cell that you want to change and select
    Explore Cell
    .
  2. Drill down until you get to the source sheet.
This instance uses workflow and someone either:
  • Submitted the level for approval.
  • Approved the level.
Ask the workflow approver to reject the level. When the account exists in both user- and level-assigned sheets, the workflow approver must reject the level in both.
This instance uses access rules. Access rules can lock certain intersections of data.
Ask your security administrator to review the access rules that affect you.
