Reference: Financial Planning Foundational Model

Adaptive Planning delivers a foundational model for financial planning with Workday Financials. Understand the model components and how they relate to each other and learn what you can and cannot change in the model.

Versions

The model comes with an actuals version and 3 plan versions:
  • Default Version
  • Current Version
  • Current Forecast
Do
Don't
  • Create more plan versions.
  • Edit the settings of the existing versions.
  • Delete existing versions.

Time

The model comes with a default calendar with time strata of:
  • Fiscal Period
  • Quarter
  • Fiscal Year
Do
Don't
  • Change the Calendar name to match the Fiscal Schedule name in the Core Tenant.
  • Keep time strata aligned between the Core Tenant and Adaptive Planning.
  • Add time strata not in the Core Tenant.
  • Add additional calendars not in the Core Tenant.

Accounts

The model comes with standard general ledger accounts and a series of cube and modeled accounts specific to financial planning.

  • Create custom accounts.
  • Add any accounts to new sheets you build.
  • Delete or change the account settings of existing cube or modeled accounts.

Levels

You can map up to 3 Workday Organizations to your Adaptive Planning levels. Company is required and must be 1 of the 3 Organizations selected.

Custom Dimensions

The model comes with several custom dimensions. The loaders create dimension values for many of the dimensions. The dimensions may appear as columns in your financial planning sheets. You and your team select the values from drop-down menus in the cells.

  • Create new planning-only dimensions. These would be dimensions that aren't an organization or worktag in the Core Tenant.
  • Add new dimensions to new sheets.
  • Create or edit the dimension values for the dimensions not listed in the Don't list.
  • Delete any existing dimension.
  • Edit the settings of any existing dimension.
  • Add any existing or new dimension to existing sheets.
  • Add, edit, or delete the dimension values of the following dimensions:
    • Asset_Class
    • Customer
    • Fund
    • Job Profile
    • Location
    • Position
    • Position Status
    • Program
    • Project
    • Revenue Category
    • Spend Category
    • Supervisory Organization
    • Supplier
    • Worker

Attributes

Adaptive Planning offers level, account, and dimension attributes. Attributes tag the levels, accounts, and dimension values. The attributes provide different groupings of data for reporting.
When you run the dimension loaders, 2 attributes load with the dimensions. The attribute values are preset and defined in the Workday custom reports:
  • Company and Cost Center Hierarchy attributes tag the Level structure. The values are loaded using FIN PCM or the pre-configured levels loader.
  • Country tags the Location dimension. The values are loaded with the Location dimension loader.
  • Worker Type tags the Worker dimension. It is loaded with the Worker dimension loader.

  • Create attributes and values.
  • Tag dimensions not loaded from Workday FIN or HCM.
  • Delete or change the loaded attributes.
  • Create, change, or delete the attribute values of the loaded attributes.
  • Change the attributes of dimensions loaded from Workday FIN or HCM.

Sheets

The model comes with pre-built sheets.

  • Add data to all the sheets.
  • Build new sheets.
  • Add display columns to sheets.
  • Delete any existing sheets.
  • Remove columns, accounts, or dimensions from sheets.
  • Add dimensions or attributes to existing sheets.
  • Remove attributes from existing sheets.
  • Use sheets that are future developments to the financial planning model.
