Concept: Account Groups
An account group is a folder-like organization tool that contains accounts in the account lists without summing the totals.
You can use groups to make it easier to find accounts when you write formulas, build sheets, or design reports and charts. Account groups can't roll up to accounts, but they can roll up to another group or the root of assumption, custom, and metric accounts.
Groups are available for all accounts except general ledger accounts.
Identifying Groups
Both groups and rollup accounts expand to reveal child accounts. To tell the difference, you can access the
Account Details
pane. Groups don't have types or many other fields. Example:
- Accounts Receivableis a group because it has limited fields.
- Average Daily Salesis a rollup account because it has a type, which indicates that it holds values that you can use in formulas.
To differentiate groups from rollups, add
Group
to the Name
of the group. Example: Accounts Payable Group
.On sheets, collapsed:
- Groupsdon't display data.
- Rollupaccounts display totals.
In
Formula Assistant
, you can view the account groups in the lists, but you can't use them in the formulas. Instead, expand the account group to view accounts organized within it.Delete Account Groups
When you delete a group, you also delete the child accounts of the group and all their data.
