Steps: Set Up Spreadsheet Data Sources

  • Set your browser language to U.S. English before importing data using a spreadsheet data source.
  • Verify that every cell in a column contains the same data type in your spreadsheet. Adaptive Planning Integration bases its data type on the contents of the entire column.
  • Security: required:
    • Data Designer permission.
    • Integration Operator permission.
You can use Integration data sources to extract data from an Excel spreadsheet. The maximum number of columns for imports is 100.
When you load a spreadsheet, Adaptive Planning determines the data type from the column contents. The structure of your spreadsheet can change if you change your local file and reimport it after:
  • Renaming a sheet.
  • Renaming a column.
  • Removing a column.
  • Changing the column order.
  • Adding a different type of data to an existing column.
If a single cell in a column of integers changed to a real number, the entire column changes data type on reimport. The loaders that depend on this data source might not function correctly.
  2. As you complete the fields in the
    Settings
     section, consider:
    Option Description
    Skip failed uploads
    Enables the import to continue to the next table if 1 of the tables fails .
    Log level
    Specifies the level of detail that you want in the logs:
    • Error
      : Only errors.
    • Info
      : Basic information, such as the date of the last update to the data source.
    • Verbose
      : Detailed information about all phases and actions. Ideal for debugging or auditing.
  3. From the
    Actions
     section, select
    Import Spreadsheet
     and select your file to upload.
    The import assigns default data types to each column but doesn’t interpret the formatting rules associated with each spreadsheet column.
    The
    Data Components
     menu populates with the spreadsheet, which you can expand to see each worksheet. You can expand each worksheet to see each column. Each column has an icon that indicates the data type. Icons with a slash indicate that you’ve excluded the columns from the staging table.
  4. Configure the staging tables and columns of data that you want to import using this data source.
    You can review and refine the structure and the data in the staging table, which is in the
    Tables to Import
     section. Each worksheet in the spreadsheet imports as a tab in the staging tables. All the columns in the worksheets automatically populate each tab.
