Steps: Set Up Salesforce Data Sources

  • Before creating a Salesforce data source or upgrading to the latest supported version, set up:
  • Security:
    • Integration Operator
       permission.
    • Data Designer
       permission.
Set up a Salesforce data source so that you can use data from your Salesforce instance in Adaptive Planning for:
  • Sales planning.
  • Sales forecasting.
You can use actuals data from Salesforce and use that data to forecast.
Example: Your users enter data in Salesforce about hot leads, records of orders, or forecasted sales. Once you import to Adaptive Planning, you can use dashboards to analyze and adjust your sales resources to meet sales quotas.
You can't import:
  • Data from reports or data created through app integrations within the Salesforce instance.
  • Salesforce objects that require a subquery. Example: ActivityHistory. We recommend that you expose this data through custom objects. If you try to access objects that require subqueries, you might see an Invalid Type for Operation error message.
  2. As you complete the fields in the
    Settings
     section, consider:
    Option Description
    Credential
    For new data sources, select an OAuth2 credential only to authenticate the connection using the Salesforce OAuth2 flow and refresh access tokens automatically. Password credentials aren't available for new data sources.
    These error messages display when:
    • OAuth authorization is required:
      Salesforce OAuth authorization required
      .
    • OAuth authorization is incomplete, such as when the instance URL is missing:
      Salesforce OAuth authorization is incomplete.
      Re-authorize the credential using Request Authorization.
    Use Sandbox?
    Select to use your Salesforce sandbox instance. Select this check box only if your implementation process requires you to test data in a sandbox as part of the data import process.
    Clear this check box when you bring data from your production Salesforce instance.
    When you use OAuth2 to connect to a Salesforce sandbox, enter the sandbox URL in your OAuth credential settings.
    Log Level
    Select how much detail that you want to include in any logs:
    • Error
      : Only errors.
    • Info
      : Only basic information. Example: Log when the data source was updated.
    • Verbose
      : Detailed information about all phases and actions.
  3. (Optional) Select
    Test Connection
     to test the connection to your Salesforce instance using this Salesforce data source.
  4. From the
    Actions
     section, click
    Save
    .
  5. From the
    Actions
     section, select
    Import structure
    .
    When you import your structure, Adaptive Planning automatically populates the
    Data Components
     section with all the data tables and data columns that you can import. Slashes through the icon indicates that the columns aren't in the staging tables.
  6. Configure the staging tables and columns of data that you want to import using this data source.
  7. From the
    Actions
     section, import your data.
  8. (Optional) From the
    Actions
     section, clear the staging tables.
Create or use a loader.
