Example: Create Multiseries Column Charts for Product and Service Revenue

This example illustrates how to create multiseries column charts that display the actual revenue for 2 products in a 3-month period.
You want to create these multiseries charts to compare your sales by product and by services:
  • Sales by Product chart to display the product revenue for laptops and tablets.
  • Sales by Services chart to display the services revenue for existing and new contracts.
When you create the sales by services chart, you want to save time by duplicating the sales by product chart and changing a couple options.
  • Create a perspective called Executive Summary with a Sales Results dashboard.
  • Your default version is a working budget with an actuals version as the override version.
  • Your model uses these general ledger accounts and subaccounts:
    • Product Revenue
      • Product Revenue - Laptops
      • Product Revenue - Tablets
    • Service Revenue
      • Service Revenue - Existing Contracts
      • Service Revenue - New Contracts
  • Security:
    • Access Dashboards
       permission.
    • Edit Dashboards
       permission.
  1. Select
    Dashboards
     from the main menu.
  2. Select the Executive Summary perspective.
  3. Select the Sales Results dashboard.
  4. Select
    Edit
    .
  5. Drop
    Column
     from
    Charts
     into the design area.
    We open
    Appearance Settings
     on the right automatically.
  6. In the
    General
     section of
    Appearance Settings
    , change the name to
    Sales by Product
    .
  7. Open
    Data Settings
    .
    You can find
    Data Settings
     on the right.
  8. Add these accounts:
    • Product Revenue - Laptops
    • Product Revenue - Tablets
  9. Expand the Product Revenue - Laptops account to access its data settings.
  10. Select
    Actuals
     on the
    Version
     prompt.
  11. Expand the Product Revenue - Tablets account to access its data settings.
  12. Select
    Actuals
     on the
    Version
     prompt.
  13. Open
    Time Settings
    .
    You can find
    Time Settings
     on the right.
  14. Select these values on
    Time Settings
    :
    Field
    Option
    Stratum
    Select
    Quarter
    .
    Span
    Select
    Range
    .
    Pin icon
    Click the icon to unpin the time.
    Select and enter:
    • Backwards 1 month.
    • Forward 1 month.
    These options change the chart to display data for 3 months:
    • Previous.
    • Current.
    • Next.
    This chart displays the product revenue for laptops and tablets in a 3-month period.
  15. On the
    Chart options
     menu of the Sales by Product chart, select
    Copy
    .
  16. Right-click in the design area and select
    Paste Chart
    .
    We open
    Appearance Settings
     on the right automatically.
  17. In the
    General
     section of
    Appearance Settings
    , change the name to
    Sales by Services
    .
  18. Open
    Data Settings
    .
  19. Expand the Product Revenue - Laptops account to access its data settings.
  20. Change the
    Account
     to
    Service Revenue - Existing Contracts
    .
  21. Expand the Product Revenue - Tablets account to access its data settings.
  22. Change the
    Account
     to
    Service Revenue - New Contracts
    .
    This chart displays the services revenue for laptops and tablets in a 3-month period.
