FAQ: Deprecation of Calculate Formula Values

When will Calculate Formula Values be deprecated?: We plan to deprecate the option in a future release, targeted for March 2026.
What happens to versions with the Calculate Formula Values option between now and the deprecation?: Versions already using the option can continue using the option until the deprecation date.
What happens to versions with the Calculate Formula Values option at the time of deprecation?: We will automatically disable the option, while keeping the version locked. The version at this time will recalculate values that aren't protected by the Locked Version option. You can archive the version after this point or prior to this point.
Why should I transition a version from Calculate Formula Values to Archive Version?: You need to report on that version beyond 18 months from now.
You’d like to ensure the data does not change going forward.
You’re experiencing poor performance when reporting on those versions.
What options do I have for transitioning a version from Calculate Formula Values to Archive Version?: Create a copy of the version that you want to archive. This copy will automatically uncheck the Calculate Formula Values box, and provide you a version to preview for changes that occurred.
Create a report that compares the new version to the original version.
If no variances exist, archive the new version and delete the old one. Or from the old version, uncheck Calculate Formula Values and select Archive Version. Then delete the new version. Your data is now better protected for the future.
If there are few, immaterial, or explainable variances, consider archiving the version and documenting the changes.
If the variances are extreme and you need to save the version data as-is, consider 1 of these options:
As a Workday core customer that uses the Publish Plan feature, publish the plan to Workday. Changes will no longer occur to the published Workday data.
Export the general ledger data, and then import it into a different version with the Override Formula Setting of the accounts set to Data Entry. Coming soon: You can do the same for linked accounts in a future release. The data entry values won't calculate in the new version. You can then archive the new version to prevent further changes.

Download CSVs of specific data sets and store the data outside of Adaptive Planning.
Use OfficeConnect to save the desired data as-is, providing you the ability to combine it with live data from other versions from Adaptive in another sheet.
Create snapshot reports of the data.
What are the differences between Calculate Formula Values and Archive Version?: Calculate Formula Values doesn’t protect the data to the same degree that Archive Version does. Archive Version directly addresses these existing gaps of Calculate Formula Values functionality:
When you add actuals to an intersection where no plan data previously existed or delete actuals data where plan data previously existing, Calculate Formula Values doesn't protect the data.
For a modeled sheet that exceeds the row limit, Calculate Formula Values doesn't protect any calculated data on the sheet.
When you add or change account links, Calculate Formula Values doesn't protect the values of the linked accounts.
When you have formulas that refer to rollup values that change due to structural changes to the hierarchies for levels, accounts, custom dimensions, and attributes, Calculate Formula Values doesn't protect the data.
When you have actuals overlay and restate actuals, Calculate Formula Values doesn't prevent the actuals overlay values from changing.
When you have formulas that refer to actuals overlay data, and you restate actuals, Calculate Formula Values doesn't protect the data.
Why didn’t we update the Calculate Formula Values functionality?: This option never stored values to the degree necessary. As a result, we can’t guarantee that the values that are currently saved are the same as they were when the option was activated. Adding functionality would not solve this issue. It would also create confusion in testing the new functionality.
