Concept: Cell Notes

Concept: Cell Notes

Cell notes enable you to review and add notes to any cell within a sheet. Cell notes stick to the intersection of accounts, time, levels, and versions.
Example: You add a note to the cell for:
  • The 6100 Product Revenue account row.
  • In the Jan 2023 timespan column.
  • For the North - Sales level.
  • In the Working Budget version.
If a cell with this exact intersection of account, time, level, and version exists on another sheet, then we display the same cell note on that other sheet. If you change or delete the note on one sheet, we change or delete the note on the other sheet.

How Cell Notes Work

Cells with notes have red triangles in the corner. You can hover over the triangle to view the notes.
You can add cell notes to almost any cell.
You can't add cell notes when:
  • The version or level is locked.
  • The cell isn't a standard data cell. Example: The header cell of a column.
Cell notes are part of specific versions. You can only see cell notes and search cell notes in the version that you selected. Notes in sub-versions don't roll up to the parent version. Example: Add a cell note to a sub-version. You don't see the note if you're in the parent version.
Notes in levels don't roll up to parent levels.
Example: Your level structure includes this level hierarchy:
  • Canada
    • Sales
    • Service
You can see the notes of Canada when you select Canada. Select either Sales or Services to see their respective notes.
Cell notes in a linked account don't save in the source account.
Cell notes are separate from sheet notes, report notes, and workflow level notes.

Add, Edit, or Delete Cell Notes

You can right-click on a cell in an open sheet and select:
