Add Parameters to Matrix Reports

  • Create or edit a matrix report.
  • Add the element that you want to use as a parameter to the rows, columns, or filters of the report.
  • Security:
    • Access Reports
      permission.
Parameters provide fields in the report viewer. Viewers can then select different options from the fields to narrow the focus of the report.
You can make the report display a prompting parameters page where viewers must select parameter options before running the report.
  1. Go to
    Reports
    .
  2. Start a new matrix report or run a matrix report and click
    Edit
    .
  3. From the report columns, rows, or filters, drag the element to the
    Parameters
    area.
  4. Right-click the parameter and select
    Properties
    .
  5. As you complete the task, consider:
    Option Bezeichnung
    Label
    The display name of the parameter prompt when you view the report.
    Prompt before viewing
    Selecting this check box prompts the report user to select a parameter choice before running the report, rather than having it as an option after running the report. You can flag any number of parameters as prompting parameters for a report.
    Allow multi-select
    Enables eligible report parameters to display multiple choices for users to select from the parameter prompt.
    Clear (Only)
    For level parameters only.
    Removes (Only) levels from the choices in the parameter prompt.
    Clear (Uncategorized)
    For custom dimension parameters only.
    Removes all uncategorized dimension values from the choices in the parameter prompt.
    Available Choices
    Options are automatically selected as choices available in the parameter prompt including any new values irrespective of whether:
    • All the values except the (only) and (uncategorized) are selected.
    • All the values including the (only) and (uncategorized) are selected.
    If you specifically select some values as available choices, then any new values aren't automatically added.
    Initial Choice
    Drop-down menu for time parameters only.
    The default parameter choice for the initial run of the report.
    Set as Initial Choice
    The default parameter choice for the initial run of the report. To set the initial choice, highlight an option from
    Available Choices
    list that already has checkmark. Then, click the
    Set as Initial Choice
    button.
  6. Click
    Apply
    and run the report.
If you selected the
Prompt before viewing
option, users must first select a parameter choice before running the report.
If not, you can run the report and then select different parameter choices to focus the data.
To remove parameters: From the canvas, right-click the parameter and select
Delete
.
